The University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) recently organised the third installment of its science popularisation activity titled ‘The Pursuit of Research’. The activity attracted over 70 students and teachers from eight local secondary schools in Macao. During the activity, the students experienced research at UM by conducting hands-on experiments related to health sciences.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the first quarter of 2022 grew by 1.02% year-on-year to 116.96, on account of dearer prices of local food products, fireworks and firecrackers; yet, lower hotel room rates and reduced prices of handbags offset part of the increase. Among the various sections of goods and services, price index of Entertainment & Cultural Activities surged by 22.27% year-on-year due to higher prices of fireworks and firecrackers. Price indices of Food, Alcoholic Beverages & Tobacco (+5.86%) and Medicine & Personal Goods (+3.64%) showed a year-on-year rise, while price indices of Accommodation (-3.70%) and Clothing & Footwear (-1.36%) decreased.

Organized by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the Light up Macao Drone Gala 2022 (the “Drone Gala”) will dazzle the city in early May. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) concluded the 2022 Article IV Consultation with Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR) and published its Staff Report today (13 April). The Mission affirms Macao SAR Government’s effective deployment of fiscal resources to soften the pandemic’s adverse impact on the economy. Meanwhile, it projects Macao’s economy to grow by 15.5% this year and 23.3% next year.

Jointly organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province and coordinated by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the Guangdong Museum of Art, the exhibition “Wild Imagination: Contemporary Ink Art in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao from 2000 to 2022” will be inaugurated on 14 April, at 6:30pm, on the 3^rd floor of MAM. The exhibition, integrated in the 32^nd Macao Arts Festival, is curated by contemporary art critic Pi Daojian, featuring nearly 80 pieces/sets of contemporary ink works by over 50 artists from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. All are welcome to visit.

A research team led by Dai Yunlu, assistant professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), University of Macau (UM), has successfully developed a series of novel metal phenolic nanoparticles to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of various cancer treatments. The research findings have been published in the internationally-renowned journals Journal of the American Chemical Society, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Advanced Functional Materials, and Nano Today.
