IFTM and Alibaba Cloud Hold Retail Expert Public Talk on New Retail Era and E-Commerce
The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) and Alibaba Cloud held Retail Expert Public Talk at the institute’s iRetail Lab on April 1 – The New Retail Era and the Next Level of E-Commerce: How to Use Cloud Technology to Develop a New Business Model of 3P Concept with “People, Products and Place”. Mr. Victor Mak, speaker of the talk, Lead Solutions Architect of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence International Macau, has worked in IT industry for more than 10 years, focusing on virtualisation, containerisation, and cloud computing. He is also a promoter of how these can be applied to various industries in Macao. During the talk, Victor Mak elaborated on how cloud computing could be incorporated in the new business model of “People, Products and Place” that would result in improved efficiency in managing retail stores, warehouses and business operations. He also shared his experience and successful cases of cooperation between Alibaba Cloud and local businesses.

CE urges further effort to optimise local mechanism to safeguard national security
The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, said today that the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government would continue to support and cooperate with, respectively, the National Security Affairs Adviser and the National Security Technical Advisers of the Committee for Safeguarding National Security, in order to efficiently coordinate all matters relating to Macao’s effort in safeguarding national security.

IAM finds no abnormalities in re-tests on cold-chain meat products imported from Brazil
The General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China announced on 8 April that samples of the outer packaging of frozen meat products imported from Brazilian enterprises with registration numbers 4507 and 1751 tested positive in novel coronavirus nucleic acid tests. In view of this, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) immediately launched the contingency plan. Measures such as source tracing, investigation, re-tests, etc. of the products of the involved enterprises have been adopted. Local businesses have been requested to immediately seal the products sourced from the involved enterprises, and samples have been collected for re-tests. No abnormalities have been found. Meanwhile, IAM has immediately suspended the import applications of the products of the involved enterprises.

The Consumer Council continues to conduct price survey on various kinds of products to enhance price transparency and survey result reveals price differences in different retail outlets. Consumers are suggested to use the data published by the Council for price comparison.

QTSAS amends application manual and assessment criteria for catering sector
As the Macao SAR’s Law No. 8/2021 on the Operation of Hotel Establishments came into effect in 2022, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) made ensuing adjustments to the rules of enforcement and award mechanism of the “Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme” (“QTSAS” or the “Scheme”) for the catering sector. The application manual and assessment criteria were amended accordingly.

Residential property price Index for December 2021 – February 2022
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the overall residential property price index for December 2021 - February 2022 decreased by 0.5% over the previous period (November 2021 - January 2022) to 263.4. The indices for the Macao Peninsula (263.3) and Taipa & Coloane (263.6) dropped by 0.3% and 1.4% respectively.

Tickets for additional performances of the 32nd Macao Arts Festival on sale from this Saturday
The 32nd Macao Arts Festival (MAF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be held from 29 April to 2 June. Since the first day of ticket sales, tickets for a number of programmes have been highly sought after. Considering the public’s overwhelming response, additional performances will be offered for the local performances. Tickets for the additional performances will be on sale simultaneously through the Macau Ticketing Network outlets, telephone and online booking from 10am on 9 April (Saturday). An early bird discount of 30%, subject to certain criteria, are available until 10 April (Sunday) and the public should take this opportunity to buy tickets as soon as possible.
