Mortgage loans statistics – January 2022

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) increased while those of commercial real estate loans (CRELs) decreased in January 2022. With regard to the outstanding balances, RMLs dropped whereas CRELs witnessed an increase.

Libraries encourage book exchange and sharing of reading resources Book collection starts on 14 March
In order to promote the reading habits as well as to encourage residents who love reading to meet friends through books and share their resources, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) will hold the “Book Exchange” activity of the 2022 “Macao Library Week”. The book collection for the activity will be held from 14 March (Monday) to 17 April (Sunday), from 2pm to 8pm on Monday, and from 8am to 8pm from Tuesday to Sunday, excluding on public holidays. All are welcome to participate.

Macao Orchestra and Macao Chinese Orchestra join hands with renowned mainland musicians to present artistic gala on 19 March
Two concerts organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym) and coordinated by the Macao Orchestra Company, Limited will be staged at Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium and the Broadway Theatre at Broadway Macau at 8 p.m. on 19 March (Saturday). The concerts will feature renowned conductors and musicians from mainland China, who will collaborate with the Macao Orchestra and the Macao Chinese Orchestra to present a compelling repertoire of Chinese and Western classics from different periods of time, bringing a multicultural artistic gala to all. Tickets for the concert “Charming Romance” are now on sale from today and those for the concert “Enchanting Tunes from the Screen 3” will be available from 11am on 12 March. The public can purchase tickets through the Macao Ticketing Network.

Temporary Almirante Lacerda Municipal Market to operate on March 29, with shuttle buses to facilitate public access
To facilitate its renovation project, the Almirante Lacerda Municipal Market (Red Market) will be in operation until March 29, while the temporary Almirante Lacerda Municipal Market in Rua Marginal do Lam Mau will be open from March 29. A total of 127 stalls will be relocated to the market to continue operation. For the convenience of the public, free shuttle buses will be arranged to commute between the Horta e Costa area and the temporary Almirante Lacerda Municipal Market.

About 3,400 People not yet Provided the Proof of Life, the Relevant Payment to be Suspended from April
According to the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao), there are about 140,000 beneficiaries receiving old-age and disability pension this year, and about 3,400 of them have yet to provide the proof of life. The FSS reminds that according to the law, beneficiaries of old-age and disability pension must provide the proof of life every year, otherwise their benefit payment will be affected. For this reason, beneficiaires who have not provided the proof of life must complete the formalities by the end of March, otherwise the relevant payment will be suspended from April.

IPIM Joins Hands with Six Major Leisure Enterprises to Promote Macao’s Advantages on Investment and MICE Industry in Guangzhou, Attracting MICE Organisers to Organise MICE Events in Macao
In order to promote the advantages of Macao's investment and MICE environment and to attract major mainland enterprises to Macao for MICE events and to boost Macao's economic development, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), together with six major integrated tourism and leisure enterprises, visited Guangzhou on 9 March, and co-operated with the Chamber of Beauty Culture and Cosmetics of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce to present the first “Macao Investment and MICE Environment Promotion Event” in Guangzhou. The event attracted over 100 members from the beauty and cosmetics and big health industries to learn more about the potential for investment, exhibitions and conferences in Macao. Some members expressed interest in coming to Macao to organise MICE events.

Cultural and creative shop and dining space open at Tap Siac Square Commercial Centre Mandarin’s House Store extends visiting experience
In order to further promote the development of the cultural and creative industries, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) has opened a cultural and creative shop and a dining space at the Tap Siac Square Commercial Centre by leasing out the commercial spaces through public tenders. On the other hand, with a brand-new style, the Mandarin’s House Store offers cultural and creative products of local brands and overseas designers, souvenirs themed on the Mandarin’s House, and creative products related to local cultural events, providing a marketing platform for Macao’s cultural and creative industries. All are welcome to visit.

Golden snub-nosed monkey family in Macao has another new member
The female golden snub-nosed monkey living in Seac Pai Van Park gave birth to another male golden snub-nosed monkey on March 1. The baby monkey is now in stable condition and makes loud sounds, taken care of in the arms of his affectionate mother. The animal care and medical team of the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will continue to closely monitor the physical condition of the mother and the baby monkey.
