Transport and communications statistics for September 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 246,028 as at end-September 2021, up by 1.7% year-on-year. Light automobiles (112,506) and heavy motorcycles (104,821) increased by 1.9% and 3.2% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, new registration of motor vehicles in September declined by 37.8% year-on-year to 727, with that of heavy motorcycles (461) and light automobiles (247) dropping by 28.5% and 50.3% respectively. In the first three quarters of 2021, new registration of motor vehicles went up by 5.6% year-on-year to 9,294. Number of traffic accidents in September rose by 20.4% year-on-year to 1,205, with 390 persons injured. In the first three quarters of 2021, traffic accidents grew by 37.4% year-on-year to 9,737, which resulted in 1 death and 3,334 injuries.

IAM continues to optimise garbage collection facilities
The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) continues to promote the optimisation of garbage collection facilities by upgrading suitable garbage collection points in communities into compacting trash bins, improving garbage transport mode for the communities, and conducting various research projects to improve the conditions of use of the facilities for a clean community environment.

Employment survey for July-September 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the general unemployment rate for July-September 2021 was 2.9% and the unemployment rate of local residents was 3.9%, up by 0.1 and 0.2 percentage points respectively from the previous period (June-August 2021). Besides, the underemployment rate increased by 0.2 percentage points to 3.9%.

The “Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System” Review Report was announced
The "Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System" Review Report was announced today (29th Oct). The report indicates that certain results have been achieved in the three years since the implementation of the System, and conditions have already been met to move towards its mandatory implementation. However, the emergence of COVID-19 has had an impact on Macao’s economy. It is recommended that the SAR government set 2021 to 2023 as the three-year observation period, and depending on the economic recovery, set up two plans with a five-year and a seven-year preparation period, and implement the Mandatory Central Provident Fund System in 2026 or 2028.

As the pandemic situation becomes stable in Macao, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) instantly steps up its promotional efforts. Visitor arrivals have been trending upward again in recent days. Average daily visitor arrivals exceeded 25,000 between 20 – 28 October. On 26 October, Macao registered the highest single-day record of 28,000 visitor arrivals.

Macao Chinese Orchestra presents the Chinese Bowed Strings Concert
The Macao Chinese Orchestra, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will present the Chinese bowed strings concert “Dance with Strings” on 20 November (Saturday), at 8pm, at the Dom Pedro V Theatre. Chen Jun, the renowned huqin virtuoso, will return to Macao and join hands with the Macao Chinese Orchestra to present the entrancing charm of Chinese bowstring music. Tickets are available from 30 October through the Macau Ticketing Network.
