Cultural Affairs Bureau announces the list of entrants for the second review of the “9th Subsidy Programme for Fashion Design on Sample Making”
The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) has recently completed the initial review of the “9th Subsidy Programme for Fashion Design on Sample Making”. The adjudicating panel selected 15 entries for the second review, and the list of entrants is as follows (in arbitrary order): Siu David, Wong Man I, Lei Wai Cheng, Ding Zhen, Leng Carmen, Cheong Sam I, Fong Chao In, Vong Si Weng, Choi Nga Teng, Chan Nga Leong, Chan Cheok Lim, Tang Si Weng, Lai Ka Pou, Kan Ka Kei and Sun Chan San. Each candidate eligible for the second review will be granted a subsidy up to a maximum amount of MOP170,000 to cover expenses for sample making and production of promotional materials. IC will notify the entrants by telephone and email. The date and venue for the second review will be announced in due course.

UM study may help develop new anti-metastasis therapies
A research team led by Prof Kathy Luo Qian in the University of Macau (UM) Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) has found that tumour cells can express more desmosomal proteins of desmocollin-2 (DSC2) and plakophilin-1 (PKP1) to help them form cell clusters in the circulatory system, so that circulating tumour cells can survive in the blood stream and have a stronger metastatic ability. This discovery provides new insights into how circulating tumour cells survive in the circulatory system, which may help to develop new anti-metastasis therapies. The study has been published in the internationally renowned journal Science Advances.

Results of transport, storage & communications survey 2020

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 3,422 establishments operating in the Transport, Storage & Communications Sector in 2020, an increase of 58 year-on-year; meanwhile, total number of persons engaged went down by 2,080 to 21,714. Receipts and expenditure of the sector amounted to MOP 16.94 billion and MOP 15.62 billion respectively, representing decreases of 48.0% and 40.6% year-on-year. Gross Surplus totalled MOP 1.28 billion, a shrinkage of 79.4% year-on-year. Gross Value Added that measures the sectoral contribution to the economy fell by 48.4% year-on-year to MOP 6.10 billion, and Gross Fixed Capital Formation slid by 58.3% to MOP 798 million.
