The Civil Protection Operations Centre at 29 September found that an alleged picture confirming “the 72nd case” had been uploaded to a social media platform.


Transport and communications statistics for August 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 245,827 as at end-August 2021, up by 1.8% year-on-year. Light automobiles (112,442) and heavy motorcycles (104,584) increased by 2.1% and 3.4% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, new registration of motor vehicles in August dropped by 5.0% year-on-year to 1,017, with that of heavy motorcycles (615) falling by 6.5%. From January to August 2021, new registration of motor vehicles increased by 12.2% year-on-year to 8,567. There were 1,012 traffic accidents in August, with 368 persons injured. In the first eight months of 2021, a total of 8,532 traffic accidents were recorded, which resulted in one death and 2,944 injuries.


External merchandise trade statistics for August 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export amounted to MOP1.07 billion in August 2021, up by 20.1% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP889 million) grew by 15.0%, with that of Wine and Garments surging by 432.0% and 95.0% respectively. Moreover, value of domestic exports (MOP176 million) increased by 54.5%, with that of Copper & articles thereof and Garments rising by 82.2% and 19.6% respectively. Total merchandise import went up by 42.6% year-on-year to MOP12.23 billion, of which imports of Mobile phones, Gold jewellery, Handbags & wallets and Watches swelled by 297.6%, 249.7%, 151.5% and 148.2% respectively; in contrast, imports of Electronic components and Other textile made-up articles declined by 59.2% and 30.9% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in August 2021 totalled MOP11.16 billion.


DSI introduced association and foundation office-holders’ information enquiry service

Following the introduction of online system for managing information of members of the leadership structure and online application for the Certificate of Association and Foundation, the Identification Services Bureau (DSI) strives to further improve services related to the registration of association and foundation. Starting from 30th September 2021, DSI launched an online enquiry service for association and foundation office-holders’ information. Residents can now check the latest status of their position taken in different associations or foundations in Macao by electronic means.


CE: Macao striving to resume quarantine-free travel to Zhuhai

The Government is making its utmost efforts to be able to resume quarantine-free travel to Zhuhai by 1 October, if possible. It would depend on stability being achieved with regards to the COVID-19 situation in Macao.



UM holds online conference on current and future development of higher education in Macao

The University of Macau (UM) Centre for Macau Studies (CMS) and Faculty of Education (FED) today (29 September) held an online conference titled ‘Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the University of Macau: Conference on the Current Situation and Future of Higher Education in Macao’. During the event, experts and scholars discussed various issues related to the current and future development of higher education in Macao.


Commemorative postmark cancellation service of “Celebration of the 72nd Anniversary of the Establishment of the People’s Republic of China”

To celebrate the 72nd Anniversary of the Establishment of the People’s Republic of China, Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau announces that a Temporary Post Counter will be set up at our Philatelic Shop of General Post Office, from 9:00 to 17:30 on 1st October 2021 to provide the commemorative postmark cancellation service for the “Celebration of the 72nd Anniversary of the Establishment of the People’s Republic of China”. A commemorative envelope priced at MOP3.00 will be issued.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for August 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 115 hotels & guesthouses were open for business in August 2021, a decrease of 1 year-on-year; meanwhile, number of available guest rooms increased by 2.8% to 36,000. Data on hotels & guesthouses designated for medical observation were excluded in the compilation of the results. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms rose by 25.1 percentage points year-on-year to 38.4%; yet, it represented a month-on-month drop of 25.3 percentage points on account of the temporarily tightened entry and exit requirements in August.


SWB provides support to the residents of red and yellow code areas together with social organisations

Macao Municipal Affairs Bureau and the Social Welfare Bureau (SWB) have set up a special support team to maintain and support the restricted areas with red and yellow code. Apart from the daily provision of three meals to the residents of the red code area, service points are also set up for collection and distribution of supplies in the red code area to facilitate the transfer of supplies from relatives and friends to the residents. At the same time, the SWB makes phone calls to the residents of the red and yellow code areas regularly to convey their sympathy, to better understand the needs of relevant residents and to provide appropriate assistance. For residents with the yellow code, who do not have access to restaurants, supermarkets and so on, the SWB can provide them more information for online purchase of daily supplies and food ordering. For senior citizens or persons with special needs who cannot or do not know how to use online channels for purchase and ordering, the SWB can assist or teach them to use the relevant online services; for the special items that cannot be purchased through the above channels, the SWB will provide purchase services for them in collaboration with nearby social organisations in the community.
