UM unveils Centre for Regional Oceans as part of its research blueprint

The University of Macau (UM) recently held a plaque unveiling ceremony for the Centre for Regional Oceans under its Faculty of Science and Technology (FST). The establishment of the centre symbolises the university’s dedication to promote research studies in regional oceanography in order to support economic diversification in Macao and contribute to the long-term development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.


IPIM SME Special Webinars Open for Application Now Hoping to Help SMEs Seizing Opportunities in New Business Trends

To support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to continue to equip themselves under adversity and enhance their business strength, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) joins hands with Macao Young Entrepreneur Incubation Centre, Macao Cross-Border E-Commerce Industry Association, The Industry and Commerce Association of Macau and Macau Youth Entrepreneur Association to organise three webinars “SME Special Webinars”. The event is open for application from now on by scanning the following QR Code and filling in the application form. The event is free-of-charge.


Graduate entrepreneur supported by IFTM student

Regardless of the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, students at the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies continues with its effort to support local entrepreneurs via student consultancy project led by IFTM Assistant Professor Dr. Fernando Lourenço. This year, students had the opportunity to help a young entrepreneur, Mr. Jacob Wong, who graduated in 2017 at the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies. His company is called IM Technology Limited, it specialises in smart vending machines. These vending machines are remotely controlled, have large interactive display, uses smart digital payment system with the capacity to store and sell goods and coffee better don’t mention the brand. One of its advantage is its cloud computing technology and its ability to collect to help businesses better serve and analyse consumer behaviour. This project offered learning opportunities for students to understand the work involve in business startups and to understand new technological advances in the retail sector.


MPI launches online Summer training courses for Portuguese language teachers

With the mission to promote the construction of the “International Portuguese Training Centre” and the “training base of Chinese-Portuguese bilingual talents”, and with the long-established effort in Portuguese language teachers’ training to enhance academic excellence and teaching, the Centre for Portuguese Studies (CPCLP) of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) continues to offer summer training courses to Portuguese language teachers of higher education institutions in China to meet the high demand over the years. Due to the epidemic situation, the training course this summer will be conducted online, and free of charge. All Portuguese language teachers of higher education institutions in Macao, mainland China and other Asia-Pacific regions are welcome.


Health statistics 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the 5 hospitals in Macao provided a total of 1,628 in-patient beds in 2019, up by 24 year-on-year. Number of in-patients went up by 3.9% year-on-year to 62,000, with the average hospital stay rising by 0.2 day to 7.4 days. With the increases in number of in-patients and average hospital stay, the occupany rate of in-patient beds grew by 3.9 percentage points to 78.3%.


Monetary and financial statistics – April 2020

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, broad money supply rebounded in April with a stable share of patacas. Meanwhile, both resident deposits and loans increased from a month earlier.




Surveys reveal price stability at supermarkets Enhanced price transparency to safeguard consumer rights

In order to enhance price transparency and safeguard consumer rights, the Consumer Council continues to survey and publish prices of supermarket products for consumers to make price comparisons. To sum up the supermarket price survey results of the last two months, a slight increase of 0.89 percent was recorded in May in the average prices of six categories of products, including rice, cereal, cooking oil, canned food and spread, beverage, and household cleaning product, revealing price stability at supermarkets.
