Consumer Council sets up hotline during National Day Holiday

As 1st October National Day is approaching, consumption by citizens is expected to increase, so are the number of inbound tourists. Consumer Council held a meeting earlier with Economic Bureau (DSE), Macao Government Tourist Office (DST), Transport Bureau (DSAT), Judiciary Police (PJ), Public Security Police Force (PSP), Macao Custom Service, Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM), Health Bureau (SS), and Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) to discuss on the protection of consumer rights of local citizens as well as inbound tourists. Representatives on the meeting all agreed to enhance patrol and communication between departments.


Government announces decorations and medals for 2019

The Government has today announced Decorations, Medals and Certificates of Merit awarded for 2019 by the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR). They are being given to 44 individuals and organisations in recognition of, respectively, achievement, outstanding contribution and distinguished service.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for August 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitors on package tours and the average occupancy rate of hotels & guesthouses recorded a year-on-year decrease in August. Package tour visitors dropped by 18.8% year-on-year to 635,000, with those from mainland China (499,000), the Republic of Korea (36,000), Hong Kong (7,700) and Taiwan (60,000) falling by 18.1%, 35.0%, 26.5% and 6.0% respectively. In the first eight months of 2019, number of package tour visitors totalled 6,379,000, representing a slowdown in growth of 9.8% year-on-year.


External merchandise trade statistics for August 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export for August 2019 amounted to MOP925 million, down by 8.8% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP795 million) decreased by 11.9%, with that of Machines, apparatus & parts, Diamond & diamond jewellery and Watches falling by 41.6%, 34.7% and 32.0% respectively. However, value of domestic exports (MOP130 million) rose by 16.3%, with that of Garments surging by 604.9%. Total merchandise import fell by 0.6% year-on-year to MOP7.49 billion, of which imports of Gold jewellery and Construction materials dropped by 26.1% and 25.2% respectively; meanwhile, imports of Handbags & wallets and Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products increased by 28.0% and 15.2% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in August totalled MOP6.57 billion.


Starting October, Social Service Centres Stop Providing Services Relating to the Special Allocation from Budget Surplus

The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) announced that its temporary counters set up at the Social Service Centres for providing services relating to the non-mandatory central provident fund system’s special allocation from 2019 budget surplus would be closed starting October. Members of the public can go to a service point of the FSS or a public service centre, or they may also make use of the self-service machine to handle the related services.


CE to visit Beijing for 70th anniversary celebration

At the invitation of the Central Government, the Chief Executive, Mr Chui Sai On, will tomorrow (30 September) lead a Macao delegation to Beijing to participate in events to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

33rd Macao International Music Festival kicks off this week with the opera in two acts The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

The opening ceremony of the 33rd Macao International Music Festival (MIMF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), will be held on 4 October, at 7:40pm, at the lobby of the Macao Cultural Centre. The public is welcome to participate in the ceremony.


“Financial Education Day” with great attendance

On September 29, 2019 (Sunday), the Macau Institute of Financial Services (IFS), jointly with several public and private organizations, held the “Financial Education Day” in the garden close to “Iao Hon Market”, from 10:30am to 05:00pm.


MGTO rolls out a series of activities in celebration of World Tourism Day

The World Tourism Day, designated on 27 September annually, revolves around the theme of “Tourism and Jobs: a better future for all” this year. Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) organized a series of activities today (27 September) to celebrate this day with residents and visitors, including greeting the Lucky Tourists and the traditional Tray Race. The Office also hosted a “World Tourism Day” Dinner to enhance networking with industry operators in the evening. Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam, and other guests were present at the Dinner. By joining the rest of the world to highlight this global tourism occasion, the Office strives to foster sustainable tourism development in Macao.
