Consumer Council released 8th supermarket price survey report of the current month
The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the second-half of September on 26 September 2019 for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 7 supermarkets in Taipa and Coloane Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.

MGTO actively prepares for 1st October Golden Week
Spanning seven days (1st – 7th October) in total, the 1st October Golden Week will start on 1st October. The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has carried out an array of preparative measures as follows: advising visitors via mobile text message to pay attention to various concerns and leverage the “smart application for visitor flows”, presenting festive and holiday activities while supporting entities in organizing such activities, delegating manpower at tourist spots to attend to visitor enquiries, distributing food guide, conducting more rigorous inspections and sending reminders to industry operators, among other measures. Through the diverse measures above, MGTO strives to cater for the needs of residents and visitors as well as to optimize the tourism environment and service quality in Macao continuously.

Gather resources, seize opportunities, and deepen international cooperation in traditional medicine 2019 Traditional Medicine International Cooperation Forum (Macao, China) opened today (September 25)
The “2019 Traditional Medicine International Cooperation Forum (Macao, China)” (hereinafter referred to as the “Forum”) co-hosted by the Macao Special Administrative Region Government and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the People’s Republic of China, and coordinated by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao (hereinafter referred to as “GMTCM Park”) kicked off today (25 September) at The Venetian Macao. More than 700 people from Mainland China, Macao, the European Union, ASEAN and Portuguese-speaking countries and regions participated in the Forum to discuss the cooperation and development of traditional medicine.

Results of industrial survey 2018
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 913 establishments were operating in the industrial sector (covering Manufacturing and Electricity, Gas & Water Supply) in Macao in 2018, a year-on-year decrease of 20; total number of persons engaged dropped by 190 to 12,313. Receipts and Expenditure of the industrial sector totalled MOP11.07 billion and MOP7.96 billion respectively in 2018, down by 4.1% and 4.0% year-on-year. Gross Surplus reduced by 4.3% to MOP3.11 billion. Gross Value Added that measures the sectoral contribution to the economy declined by 3.3% year-on-year to MOP5.27 billion. Meanwhile, Gross Fixed Capital Formation of the sector increased by 60.5% to MOP1.89 billion.

UM joins US bibliographic catalogue to share resources with libraries around the world
The University of Macau (UM) Wu Yee Sun Library recently joined the union catalogue of the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) in the United States, becoming the first university in Macao to join the library cooperative. The database itemises the collections of 17,900 libraries in 123 countries and regions. It also allows libraries and readers from around the world to search for and purchase books published in Macao, which is expected to provide a boost to Macao’s publishing industry.

UM professor Brian Hall elected fellow of American Psychological Association
Brian Hall, a professor in the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Macau (UM), has been elected a fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA). Prof Hall is the only psychologist in Macao to have been elected an APA fellow. Currently, there are only ten APA fellows in the Greater China region. Among the more than 120,000 APA members around the world, fewer than 4 per cent are APA fellows.

Global Tourism Economy Forum slated to unfold in Macao in mid-October for “Tourism and Leisure: Roadmap to a Beautiful Life”
The Global Tourism Economy Forum (“GTEF” or “the Forum”)will convene in Macao under the theme “Tourism and Leisure: Roadmap to a Beautiful Life” on 13 - 15 October. Centred on the concept of “Beautiful Life” raised by President Xi Jinping, the Forum will lead forward-thinking discussions on global tourism economy. This year, GTEF will deepen its collaboration with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) by bringing the finale of the “UNWTO Tourism Tech Adventure: SportsTech” to Macao for the first time. The first “GTEF ∙ World Tourism Investment and Financing Conference” will also be launched in this edition.

Seac Pai Van Library officially opens providing quality reading experience as well as learning and leisure facilities
The Seac Pai Van Library, under the Macao Public Library of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym), was inaugurated in the morning of 24 September. The opening ceremony was officiated by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam Chon Weng; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mok Ian Ian; the Member of the Administration Committee on Municipal Affairs of the Municipal Affairs Bureau, Isabel Celeste Jorge; the Deputy Director of the Infrastructure Development Office, Luís Manuel Silva Madeira de Carvalho; the Head of the Department of Public Housing of the Housing Bureau, Chan Wa Keong; and the Head of the Division of Secondary and Vocational Technical of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Leong I On. The Seac Pai Van Library officially opens, providing residents quality reading experience and reading space.
