Over 100 Chinese and overseas experts discuss latest stem cell technologies at UM

The University of Macau (UM) today (27 September) held the Second Macau Stem Cell Symposium. The event attracted more than 100 experts and scholars from around the world, including the United States, Singapore, mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao. During the event, participants had in-depth discussions on the latest developments in stem cell research. According to Prof Wei Ge, vice rector (research) of UM, stem cell research holds tremendous promise for medical treatment and is one of the key research areas at UM. This symposium is expected to boost the development of stem cell research in Macao.


Macao hosts series of events to celebrate 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China

The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government will hold a series of activities in Macao inviting the local community to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.


MGTO presents mapping show in celebration of National Day

To celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) will present a special mapping show titled “Glorious Splendour in Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China” at the Ruins of St. Paul’s for three consecutive nights from 29th September to 1st October, sharing the joy brought by this momentous occasion with residents and visitors.


Macao, Hong Kong step up cooperation for enhancement of people’s well-being

Macao and Hong Kong will work together more closely, to complement the respective efforts of the two places regarding advancement of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area) and regarding other reciprocal cooperation. These actions would be in a bid to enhance people’s well-being.


Candidate list submitted for the Legislative Assembly by-election is approved

The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Legislative Assembly Election has approved a sectoral candidate list in relation to a pending by-election for a Legislative Assembly seat.


Employment survey for June-August 2019

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that both the general unemployment rate (1.8%) and the unemployment rate of local residents (2.4%) for June-August 2019 held steady from the previous period (May-July 2019). Meanwhile, the underemployment rate (0.4%) dropped by 0.1 percentage point.


The Macao Chinese Orchestra tours in Portugal promoting Macao’s culture and contributing to Sino-Portuguese friendship

The Macao Chinese Orchestra is committed to lighting up residents’ lives by promoting Chinese traditional music in the local community and introducing Chinese traditional music to the global audience. On occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Portugal and the 20th anniversary of Macao’s Handover to China, the Macao Chinese Orchestra, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, embarks a tour in Portugal to perform in cities, namely Lisbon, Estoril and Sintra, from 22 September to 3 October. Following its tour in 2014, this year the Macao Chinese Orchestra, taking the role of musical and cultural ambassador of Macao, will participate in the Chinese Cultural Festival in Portugal, organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, as well as the closing concert of the 54th Sintra International Music Festival. It is of special significance for the Orchestra to present Chinese music in Portugal, promoting Macao’s culture and musical traits on occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.


Annual Arts Exhibition between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries inaugurated on 26 September

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the “Lingua Franca - 2nd Annual Arts Exhibition between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”, was inaugurated on 26 September, at No. 55 - 57 Avenida do Coronel Mesquita (Green Townhouses). The opening ceremony was officiated by the representative of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture and the Chief of Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Ip Peng Kin; the Consul-General of Portugal in Macao and Hong Kong, Paulo Cunha Alves; the Deputy Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao S.A.R., Liu Wei; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mok Ian Ian; the Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; and the representative of the curators of exhibition, Manuel Correia da Silva. This exhibition is one of the series activities of “Art Macao” and of the “2nd Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”, showcasing the diverse manifestations and development of contemporary art in China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and offering a new experience of Chinese and Portuguese visual arts to residents and tourists.


Consumer Council released 8th supermarket price survey report of the current month

The Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ of the second-half of September on 26 September 2019 for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included 7 supermarkets in Taipa and Coloane Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo), the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app, or the Council’s WeChat account.


MGTO actively prepares for 1st October Golden Week

Spanning seven days (1st – 7th October) in total, the 1st October Golden Week will start on 1st October. The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has carried out an array of preparative measures as follows: advising visitors via mobile text message to pay attention to various concerns and leverage the “smart application for visitor flows”, presenting festive and holiday activities while supporting entities in organizing such activities, delegating manpower at tourist spots to attend to visitor enquiries, distributing food guide, conducting more rigorous inspections and sending reminders to industry operators, among other measures. Through the diverse measures above, MGTO strives to cater for the needs of residents and visitors as well as to optimize the tourism environment and service quality in Macao continuously.
