Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – December 2018
The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP163.6 billion (USD20.28 billion) at the end of December 2018. The reserves increased by 2.9% from the revised value of MOP158.9 billion (USD19.72 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-December 2018 represented 10 times the currency in circulation or 83.9% of pataca M2 at end-November 2018.

Non-Mandatory Central Provident Fund System’s Government-Managed Sub-Accounts have been Distributed with Interest Income for the Year, at an Annual Interest Rate of about 2.137%
The Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) said that interest income for the year 2018 had already been credited to the non-mandatory central provident fund system’s government-managed sub-accounts on 11 January, at an annual interest rate of about 2.137%. From now on, members of the public can check their account balances through the FSS’ website at www.fss.gov.mo, or the 24-hour interactive voice hotline 2823 0230.

Consumer Council conducted its ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 14 January for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets in Toi San, Ilha Verde and Fai Chi Kei areas in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish. Consumers may now check the report data on the Council’s website (www.consumer.gov.mo) or the “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app.

Macao to stage UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy cooking show at Anim’Arte NAM VAN
Macao will hold for the first time this weekend (January 19 and 20) a cooking show open to the public with chefs from UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy from around the world. Organized by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), with the coordination of Macau Culinary Association, the outdoor culinary demonstration is a highlight of the “International Gastronomy Forum, Macao 2019”, and joins the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region (Macao SAR).

Exhibition “Masterpieces of Russian Art from the State Tretyakov Gallery” opens on Friday (18 January) at the Macao Museum of Art
Jointly organised by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the State Tretyakov Gallery, the exhibition “Masterpieces of Russian Art from the State Tretyakov Gallery” will be inaugurated on Friday, 18 January, at 6:30pm, on the 1st floor of MAM, featuring a total of 70 oil paintings and sculptures collected by the State Tretyakov Gallery from the end of the 18th century to the present. Free commemorative tickets with particular value by collectors will be distributed on a first come, first served basis at the reception on the 1st floor of MAM from 6pm on the day of the opening ceremony. All are welcome to attend.

18th Macao City Fringe Festival inaugurated
Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the 18th Macao City Fringe Festival, is held from 11 to 27 January 2019. The opening ceremony was held on 11 January 2019, at 7:30pm, at the Old Court Building, and was officiated by the Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Deland Leong Wai Man and representatives of the participating art groups of this edition of the Fringe Festival; and was attended by the Head of the Department of Performing Arts Development, Iu Wai Man; the Head of the Division of Performing Arts, Lei Lo Heng; and representatives of other art groups. The opening ceremony also symbolizes the grand opening of the “18th Branch of Macao City Fringe Supermarket”. The public is advised to purchase their tickets as soon as possible as tickets for some of the programmes are limited.
