The 2024 GEG Lusofonia Festival will begin this Friday, October 25th, promoting Lusophone culture for six days
Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau and Galaxy Entertainment Group, and Co-organized by the Macao Government Tourist Office and the Municipal Affairs Bureau, the 2024 GEG Lusofonia Festival takes place from 25 to 27 October, and from 1 to 3 November at the Taipa Houses. For the first time, this year, the Lusofonia Festival was extended for two weekends to give residents and tourists a deeper knowledge of the traditions, customs and unique culture of Portuguese-speaking Countries and Regions.

CAS academician to give talk at UM on mathematics and modern technology
The University of Macau (UM) will hold a talk titled ‘Mathematics and Modern Technology’ on 28 October (Monday) as part of its University Lecture Series. Tang Tao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), will be the speaker. During the talk, Prof Tang will discuss the pivotal role of mathematics in technological innovation. All are welcome to attend.

Global roster of drivers set for showdown in FIA FR World Cup in Macau

Macao's signature annual international sporting event, the "Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region - 71st Macau Grand Prix" will be held from November 14th to 17th. This year’s event includes seven exciting races, including the Macau Grand Prix - FIA FR World Cup.

Macao Orchestra New Year Concert Hiromi Uehara and Ryusuke Numajiri jointly present orchestral jazz
Presented by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Macao Orchestra Company, Limited and Melco Resorts & Entertainment, the concert “Jazz Carnival – Macao Orchestra New Year Concert 2025” will be held on 31 December (Tuesday), at 8pm, at the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. Renowned Japanese jazz piano legend Hiromi Uehara will join hands with conductor Ryusuke Numajiri and the Macao Orchestra to present a series of jazz and orchestra works on New Year’s Eve to celebrate the New Year with music aficionados.

Temporary closure of Taipa Central Park Swimming Pool
Due to the exceedance of E. coli standard in the pool water as a result of external contamination, the Taipa Central Park Swimming Pool has been temporarily closed with immediate effect until further notice. A series of cleaning and disinfection works will be carried out to ensure the safety of the public. The Sports Bureau regrets any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of the swimming pool and appreciate the public’s understanding.

UM students and faculty attend Confucius Worship Ceremony at Hunan University
To commemorate the 2575th anniversary of Confucius’s birth, Yuelu Academy of Hunan University held a Confucius Worship Ceremony. Members from the University of Macau (UM) and other member institutions of the Chinese Residential College Alliance, including Peking University, Wuhan University, Nanjing University, and Southeast University, were invited to attend the ceremony. They participated in traditional Chinese rituals to honour Confucius and other ancient sages.

Nobel laureate to deliver lecture on artificial intelligence at UM on 5 November
The Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) of the University of Macau (UM) will hold a Nobel Laureate Lecture on 5 November (Tuesday). Thomas Sargent, Nobel laureate in economic sciences, will deliver a lecture on ‘Sources of Artificial Intelligence’. All are welcome to attend.

Be wary of fraudulent supermarket “point expiry scam” SMS to prevent theft of credit card information

The Judiciary Police (PJ) has detected a scam where fraudsters pretend to be major Hong Kong and Macao supermarket chains and randomly send phishing text messages to the public. These messages claim that the points in the recipients’ accounts are about to expire and urge them to click the embedded link to visit a counterfeit supermarket website. The website lures individuals to enter their personal and credit card information by offering gifts that can be exchanged with low points, thereby stealing credit card data to carry out unauthorized large transactions.
