Teams start training for Women's Volleyball Nations League 2024 Macao presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group
The Women’s Volleyball Nations League 2024 Macao presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group, jointly organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Galaxy Entertainment Group, and the Volleyball Association of Macao, China will be held at the Galaxy Arena from 28 May (Tuesday) to 2 June (Sunday). The teams that have already arrived in Macao have started training. Meanwhile, Team Japan also arrived in Macao today (24 May).

MGTO attends high-level tourism meeting in Xi’an at invitation and discusses exchange and cooperation with Shaanxi
At the invitation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Director of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, attended the 14th China – U.S. Tourism Leadership Summit, which commenced in Xi’an on 22 May, and shared about aspects of Macao’s tourism industry in one of the panel discussions. During the stay, MGTO met with the Shaanxi provincial departments concerned for a further exchange on preparations for the Macao Week in Xi’an and other topics on the agenda, leveraging the opportunity unlocked by Xi’an’s participation in the facilitated individual travel scheme this year to expand Macao’s reach in the Mainland visitor market.

UM students’ final year projects favoured by industries in GBA
The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of the University of Macau (UM) held the FST Graduation Award Ceremony & Project Exhibition today (24 May) as part of the faculty’s 35th anniversary celebration. The exhibition showcased a total of 50 graduation projects and results by FST undergraduate and postgraduate students, covering a wide range of areas from basic sciences to cutting-edge technologies. More than 100 industry representatives, business executives, government officials, professors and students from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) visited the exhibition. Many industry representatives from the GBA gave recognition to the work of UM students.

Consumer Price Index (CPI) for April 2024
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Composite CPI for April 2024 rose by 0.92% year-on-year. Among the various sections of goods and services, the price indices of Education (+5.05%), Health (+3.02%) and Clothing & Footwear (+2.54%) saw notable year-on-year growth. In addition, the price indices of Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages (+1.34%) and Housing & Fuels (+0.52%) increased owing to higher charges for eating out as well as dearer prices of liquefied petroleum gas and electricity. On the other hand, the price indices of Transport (-3.49%) and Communication (-0.07%) dropped. The CPI-A and CPI-B recorded respective increases of 0.88% and 0.98% year-on-year.

Gross domestic product for the 1st quarter of 2024

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expanded by 25.7% year-on-year in real terms in the first quarter of 2024, on account of the revival of the local economy underpinned by thriving exports of services as well as steady private consumption and gross fixed capital formation. The local economy has recovered to 87.2% of its size in the same quarter of 2019; exports of gaming services and exports of other tourism services grew by 62.7% and 14.8% year-on-year respectively, and domestic demand (including private consumption expenditure, government final consumption expenditure and investment) rose by 3.4%. The implicit deflator of GDP, which measures the overall changes in prices, went up by 2.3% year-on-year to 106.8.
