UM holds Open Day in Macao and Hengqin, showcasing its vision and development direction

The University of Macau (UM) held its open day event today (14 January). Titled ‘UM Open Day 2024: Connecting Macao and Hengqin’, this year’s Open Day was held in both Macao and Hengqin for the first time, showcasing the latest achievements of the university and the Zhuhai UM Science & Technology Research Institute (ZUMRI) in teaching and research, talent cultivation, and industry-academia collaboration. The event attracted many students, parents, members of the public and visitors, who came to learn about the admission information, education model, and campus culture of the university. Yonghua Song, rector of UM, said that the Open Day is a manifestation of UM’s vision and development direction, and the university plans to establish a new campus in Hengqin.


Fierce competition on the third day of the 2024 MGM Macao International Regatta

The penultimate day of the 2024 MGM Macao International Regatta saw teams fighting for leading positions in their respective championships. Strong wind conditions made for some exciting racing. Canados Sailing Team from Germany climbed to pole position in the standings of the Macao Cup International Regatta (Beneteau First 40.7 unified design group), following the retirement of overnight leaders ExeQute Racing from South Africa. Meanwhile, Muwu BBQ and Team Yacht Racing of Thailand maintained their overall lead in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta (IRC group) and the International Catamaran Invitational (Hobie 16 unified design group), respectively. All teams will continue to show their best tomorrow to fight for the overall champions title.


IFTM Students engaged in a memorable Q&A session with Chef Gordon Ramsay

Gordon Ramsay, the globally acclaimed chef and restaurateur visited Macao. During his visit, students from the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM), enrolled in the Culinary Arts Management bachelor degree programme and accompanied by alumni, had the exceptional opportunity to partake in a thought-provoking Question and Answer session with Chef Ramsay. The session took place at the newly established Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill at The Londoner Macao.


IFTM Students Collaborate on Rural Revitalisation Project in Jiangmen Rural Village

The Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) is dedicated to offer students with practical opportunities related to entrepreneurship. Students from Tourism Retail and Marketing Management programme have embarked on an industrial project aimed at supporting the rural revitalisation of ChaKeng Village in Jiangmen.

Racing bursts into life on the second day of the 2024 MGM Macao International Regatta. ExeQute Racing, Muwu BBQ and Team Yacht Racing of Thailand maintained their overall lead in the Macao Cup International Regatta (Beneteau First 40.7 unified design group), the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup Regatta (IRC group) and the International Catamaran Invitational (Hobie 16 unified design group), respectively.


【Single-day visitor arrivals peak at 175,000 on New Year's Eve】Visitor arrivals in 2023 reach 28.23 million and 70% of pre-pandemic level

Provisional statistics indicate an approximate total of 28.23 million visitor arrivals in Macao in 2023 and an average daily volume of 77,000 visitors, rebounding to 70% of the levels in 2019. On New Year’s Eve yesterday (31 December 2023), the number of visitors reached 175,030, the highest single-day record in 2023 and since after the pandemic.


CE visiting Fujian to promote cooperation

IAM to hold briefings on “Registration System for Retail Establishments of Fresh and Live Food” and members of the industry are welcome to register for participation

Administrative Regulation “Registration System for Retail Establishments of Fresh and Live Food” will officially come into effect on 1 February 2024. In order to enhance the food industry’s understanding of the registration system, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will hold two briefings on the system on 19 and 22 January. Members of the relevant food industry are welcome to register for participation.


Tourist price index (TPI) for the 4th quarter of 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the Tourist Price Index (TPI) for the fourth quarter of 2023 went up by 26.15% year-on-year to 150.47. The rise stemmed from higher hotel room rates, dearer prices of clothing and jewellery, as well as rising charges for restaurant services. Among the various sections of goods and services, price index of Accommodation surged by 178.67% year-on-year, and the indices of Clothing & Footwear, Miscellaneous Goods and Restaurant Services showed respective growth of 10.55%, 4.51% and 2.43%.


22nd Macao City Fringe Festival kicks off next week injecting artistic vitality throughout the city

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the 22nd Macao City Fringe Festival will be held from 17 to 28 January. The opening ceremony will be held on 17 January (Wednesday), at 4pm, at the Former Iec Long Firecracker Factory, injecting endless artistic vitality into the community and bringing creativity into every corner of the city. The participatory exhibition “Art Exhibition for All” will be inaugurated at 11am on the same day. Limited tickets are available for some of the Fringe Festival’s programmes and those interested are advised to purchase tickets as soon as possible.
