Quality Assurance Expert Panel Visited Macao Polytechnic University to Promote Exchange and Co-operation on Quality Assurance in Higher Education
In order to further understand the development of higher education and quality assurance in Macao, Acting Chair Carol Lynn Bobby and members of the Quality Assurance Expert Panel (QEP) visited Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) under the arrangement of the Education and Youth Development Bureau. The Panel was warmly received by the Vice Rector, Dr. Lei Ngan Lin, and was introduced to the development of teaching, research and quality accreditation at the University. A cordial and fruitful discussion on issues such as the progress of higher education teaching and learning evaluation and accreditation was held.

70th Macau Grand Prix officially opens as Tap Seac Square Auto Show attracts fans
The 70th Macau Grand Prix starts tomorrow (November 11th) and the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee (MGPOC) held an opening ceremony today (November 10th) at Tap Seac Square. The participating race cars and motorcycles on display plus racing drivers and riders on site attracted many residents and fans to visit the venue, creating a lively atmosphere.

Stay vigilant to avoid being scammed during the “Singles Day” online shopping festival

The "Singles Day" online shopping festival, which has become an important consumer holiday in Macao, mainland China, and neighboring areas in recent years, is drawing near. During this period in the past, fraudsters frequently posed as platform customer service representatives and called victims, alleging that "the goods they purchased were damaged while being transported" or "the parcel was lost." They claimed they would offer compensation but would require the victims to pay a "security deposit" upfront or click the "refund link" to apply. Indeed, it was a hoax to defraud the victims of their money and personal or bank card information, resulting in losses for the victims.

Demographic statistics for the 3rd quarter of 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total population as at end-September 2023 increased by 2,500 quarter-on-quarter to 681,300, mainly attributable to a rise in the number of non-resident workers living in Macao. Women outnumbered men, with the female population (363,500) accounting for 53.4% of the total population.

Mortgage loans statistics – September 2023
According to statistics released today (10 November) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) and commercial real estate loans (CRELs) both decreased month-on-month in September 2023. With regard to the outstanding balances, RMLs dropped whereas CRELs remained virtually unchanged when compared with the previous month.

Beware of the resurfacing of bogus telecommunications phishing scam
Since the beginning of this month, the Judiciary Police (PJ) has received more than ten reports from residents who alleged to have received fraudulent text messages impersonating a local telecommunications company. The SMS messages claimed that the victims’ loyalty points were about to expire. To redeem their rewards, the recipients of the abovementioned messages should log into a fake website and provide personal and credit card information. Using this method, swindlers stole victims’ information, and the latter incurred a total loss of approximately MOP$130,000.
