Cambridge Librarians’ Day Forum held at UM

The 10th Cambridge Librarians’ Day Forum, jointly organised by the University of Macau Library and Cambridge University Press, was held at the University of Macau (UM). The event brought together more than 70 librarians and experts from Singapore, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan regions to discuss library development and other topics.




Brazilian Linguist Adriana Pagano Delivers Academic Lectures on “Corpus and Translation” and “Cognitive Approach to Translation Studies” at Macao Polytechnic University

In order to enhance academic cooperation with prestigious universities and scholars in Portuguese-speaking countries and explore the latest research advancements in the interdisciplinary fields of translation studies and cutting-edge corpus studies, the Faculty of Languages and Translation at Macau Polytechnic University extended an invitation to Adriana Pagano, a linguistics professor from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil. She delivered a series of five academic lectures on "Corpus and Translation" and "Cognitive Approach to Translation Studies". These lectures garnered significant interest from both faculty members and students. The lecture series was conducted using a blend of online and in-person delivery, with active engagement and lively interactions among FLT faculty and students.


Monetary and financial statistics – January 2024

According to statistics released today (5 March) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, broad money supply rebounded in January. Meanwhile, resident deposits rose from a month ago whereas loans to residents posted a decline.


UM, Sinopharm establish cooperation in biomedical sciences

To support the Macao SAR Government’s ‘1+4’ strategy for economic diversification and promote the development of the ‘big health’ industry in Macao, the University of Macau (UM) and China National Pharmaceutical Group Co Ltd (Sinopharm) signed a strategic cooperation agreement in health on 26 February. Both parties hope to promote the commercialisation of UM’s research results through closer industry-academia collaboration, thereby boosting the strategic technological capabilities of Macao and Hengqin in the field of biomedical sciences and health.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) leads a delegation of the travel trade to participate in ASTINDO Travel Fair in Indonesia again, where the Office runs a mega Macao Pavilion to showcase Macao as a preferred destination that holds great appeal for Southeast Asian travelers, forging ahead with international marketing endeavors.



Cultural Affairs Bureau presents the programme “Fado Nights” concerts at Dom Pedro V Theatre during the weekends in March aiming to enriching the cultural tourism experience

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the first “Fado Nights” concert was held in the evening of 1 March at the Dom Pedro V Theatre in a lively atmosphere. The President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Leong Wai Man; the Advisor of the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Lo Hou Chi; the Acting Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office, Cheng WaiTong; the Head of Delegation of the Orient Foundation in Macao, Catarina Cottinelli da Costa; and Fado singers Tiago Correia and Bárbara Santos unveiled the event with a toasting ceremony before the performance.


MGTO promotes Macao in Portugal as “APAVT Preferred International Destination” to attract more long-haul European visitors and diversify source markets

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is joining hands with the Portuguese Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (APAVT) to promote Macao at the Lisbon Travel Market (BTL), running since February 28 until March 3, leveraging on the designation of “Macao – APAVT Preferred International Destination 2024” to increase travel flows from Portugal and Europe, as part of the work to diversify international visitor source markets.
