Organised by the Sports Bureau, SJM Resorts, S.A. and the Dragon Boat Association of Macao, China, and co-organised by the Municipal Affairs Bureau and the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau, the final race day of the ‘Celebration of the 25^th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR – 2024 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races’was held today (10 June) at Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre. After several rounds of intense races, China Nanhai Jiujiang defended both the Open and the Women’s titles of the Macao International Invitation Standard Dragon Boat Race (500m), while Liaocheng University won the Macao University Student Invitation Standard Dragon Boat Race (500m). Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng enjoyed the races on-site and hosted the eye-dotting ceremony and award presentation ceremony.

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) represented Macao, China, as a Guest Economy, to attend the 63rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Tourism Working Group (TWG) Meeting, held in Peru, and continue to engage in the activities of the organization. During the meeting, MGTO presented an update about the tourism industry in Macao and exchanged with representatives from other Asia Pacific economies, helping to raise the city’s profile internationally.

After fierce competition among the teams, the Fire Services Bureau and the Association of Macao Youth Development – A won the Open and Women’s category of the Macao Small Dragon Boat Race (200m), respectively. The Macao Standard Dragon Boat Race – Open and Women’s categories (500m) will be held tomorrow (9 June).

Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) held the graduation ceremony of the academic year 2023/2024 today, June 7th, at 4 PM in the Multi-Sport Pavilion. The ceremony featured the raising of the national flag and the singing of the national anthem. A total of one thousand students graduated, including those receiving doctoral, master's, and bachelor's degrees. During the ceremony, honorary doctorate degrees were also awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to society and educational development. The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Ao Ieong U, who represented the Chief Executive of the Macao SAR and Chancellor of MPU, stated that MPU has more effectively utilized the academic and research strengths of Macao's higher education institutions in major initiatives such as promoting the moderate diversification of Macao's economy, constructing the Greater Bay Area's technology and innovation corridor, and developing the Portuguese Language Education Alliance in the Greater Bay Area.

Under the patronage of the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region and organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the 1^st Macao International Children’s Arts Festival will be held from July to August. The event is divided into nine sections, featuring a total of 45 performances and activities in over 1,000 sessions, including world-class performing arts, a Broadway musical, an art exhibition, a film festival, large outdoor installations, art camps, masterclasses, workshops and an art carnival, which are centred at the Macao Cultural Centre and surrounding areas. A variety of diverse activities will be launched, brightening up children in their childhood with culture and arts, encouraging families and children to get close to the arts and from diverse perspectives using all their senses, and presenting a new performing arts festival.

In order to further enhance the atmosphere of the 1^st Macao International Children’s Arts Festival, a range of outdoor art installations themed around the Festival’s mascots MICAF elves will be set up at the Cultural Centre Plaza. Relevant leisure facilities and splash sprinklers will be available onsite. Families and children are welcome to visit and play with MICAF elves at the plaza this summer.
