Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – February 2024

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today (15 March) that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP229.4 billion (USD28.45 billion) at the end of February 2024. The reserves increased by 1.7% from the revised value of MOP225.6 billion (USD28.02 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-February 2024 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 90.1% of pataca M2 at end-January 2024.


UM holds ceremony to mark acquisition of annotated edition of Os Lusíadas do Grande Luís de Camoens

In commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the birth of the famous Portuguese poet and playwright Luís de Camões, the University of Macau Library (UM Library) held a book presentation ceremony to mark the acquisition of the annotated edition of Os Lusíadas do Grande Luís de Camoens published in 1613. The rare book, which has been included in the collection of the UM Library, contains what is believed to be the first biography of the poet.


Consumer Council takes measures to celebrate World Consumer Rights Day 2024

Results of survey on manpower needs and wages for the 4th quarter 2023

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the number of persons engaged in Wholesale & Retail Trade increased by 4.7% year-on-year to 68,551 at the end of the fourth quarter of 2023. Among them, 43,488 were working in Retail Trade, up by 6.0%. Meanwhile, persons engaged in the Transport, Storage & Communications sector (14,513) rose by 3.9% year-on-year, whereas those in Security Activities (12,755) and Public Sewage & Refuse Disposal Activities (919) dropped by 1.7% and 3.4% respectively.

34th Macao Arts Festival Outreach programme provides the audience with a diverse artistic experience

MPU and Sands China Jointly Run The Art Talent Development Showcase to Contribute Toward Macao’s Cultural Tourism Development

To support Macao’s youth policies and facilitate its “1+4” adequate economic diversification development, the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), Sands China Ltd., and the MPU Alumni Association jointly organised an achievement exhibition for the Art Talent Development Showcase at the Lam Kan Exhibition Gallery of MPU to display students’ creative achievements, which received overwhelming responses. Mr Im Sio Kei, Rector of MPU; Mr Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd.; Mr Wong U Kei, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the MPU Alumni Association; and others, attended the event and presented certificates to the students who participated in the programme.
