Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals totalled 2,213,807 in May 2023, representing an upsurge of 268.5% year-on-year but a decrease of 2.6% month-on-month. Same-day visitors (1,124,977) and overnight visitors (1,088,830) soared by 213.4% and 350.2% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors increased by 0.3 day year-on-year to 1.2 days; the duration for overnight visitors (2.2 days) and same-day visitors (0.2 day) both went up by 0.1 day.

Organised by the Sports Bureau, SJM Resorts, S.A. and the Dragon Boat Association of Macao, China, and co-organised by the Municipal Affairs Bureau and the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau, the 2023 SJM Macao International Dragon Boat Races staged both the Open Category and Women’s Category of the Standard Dragon Boat Race today (18 June). After several rounds of intense races, the Fire Services Bureau and the Association of Macao Youth Development won the Open Category and the Women’s Category, respectively.

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) convened the “35^th Joint Meeting of the UNWTO Commission for East Asia and the Pacific and the UNWTO Commission for South Asia” and the “UNWTO Conference on the International Code for the Protection of Tourists” in Phnom Penh, Cambodia from 15 – 17 June. The Macau Institute for Corporate Social Responsibility in Greater China (MICSRGC) and Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) jointly held the GBA industry-academia forum entitled "Biodiversity Accounting, Sustainability and Ecotourism：Opportunities in the Greater Bay Area" at IFTM’s Taipa Campus on June 16. The forum provided a platform for government departments, business organisations, academic institutions, related associations and other stakeholders to exchange ideas on relevant issues and to connect with each other that are working towards similar goals. More than 100 attendees from local institutions, organisations, the GBA cites and international academia joined the hybrid event.

Applications for the “Scripts in Focus – Film Scriptwriting Advanced Programme” (hereafter referred to as the Programme), jointly organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the Film Administration of Guangdong Province and Create Hong Kong, and supported by Wynn Macau, Limited, are open from today until 19 July. All local filmmakers are welcome to participate. Shortlisted projects from Macao will receive guidance from professional directors and scriptwriters and will be awarded a prize of up to MOP90,000.
