UM student wins 1st prize in China Postgraduate Mathematical Contest in Modelling

Huang Hongliang, a postgraduate student in the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), University of Macau (UM), recently won a first prize at ‘Huawei Cup’ — the 19th China Postgraduate Mathematical Contest in Modelling. The competition attracted a total of 17,970 teams from more than 400 universities and research institutes around the world, with only 1 per cent of the teams winning a first prize.


Company statistics for the 4th quarter of 2022

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 1,120 new companies were incorporated in the fourth quarter of 2022, an increase of 38 year-on-year. Number of new companies operating in Wholesale & Retail Trade (463) and Business Services (331) both rose by 74. Meanwhile, total value of registered capital of the new companies declined by 60.7% year-on-year to MOP211 million, attributable to a decrease in the number of newly incorporated companies with relatively large capital during the quarter. Companies in dissolution totalled 200 in the fourth quarter, and the value of registered capital of these companies amounted to MOP144 million.


Payment Card and Mobile Payment Statistics – 4th Quarter 2022

According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, the total numbers of personal credit cards and debit cards issued by banks in Macao increased in the fourth quarter of 2022. The credit card and debit card turnover both witnessed quarter-to-quarter growth. Meanwhile, the number and the value of transactions of local mobile payment tools rebounded on a quarterly basis.


Mainland tourist market fully opens up – Macao welcomes the first batch of tour groups from the Mainland today (6 February)

With the reinstatement of operations of group tours joined by Mainland residents to Hong Kong and Macao, six tour groups from the Mainland, comprising 135 visitors in total, are arriving in Macao today (6 February). There are two tour groups from Guangdong Province, three from the city of Shanghai and one from Liaoning Province, arriving through Hengqin Port, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and Macau International Airport respectively.
