Mortgage loans statistics – November 2024
According to statistics released today (10 January) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) decreased whereas those of commercial real estate loans (CRELs) rose month-on-month in November 2024. With regard to the outstanding balances, both RMLs and CRELs witnessed declines on a monthly basis.

Tourist price index (TPI) for the 4th quarter of 2024
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the average Tourist Price Index (TPI) for 2024 went up by 3.15% year-on-year to 146.23, on account of dearer prices of jewellery and clothing, as well as rising charges for restaurant services. Analysed by section of goods and services, price indices of Miscellaneous Goods, Clothing & Footwear and Restaurant Services grew by 9.86%, 5.66% and 3.8% year-on-year respectively, whereas the index of Entertainment & Cultural Activities (-13.76%) showed a fall.

Exhibition of Virtual Reality at the Ruins of St. Paul’s will be temporarily closed for maintenance works
The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) will conduct maintenance works at the site of the exhibition “Visiting the Ruins of St. Paul’s in Space and Time” – Exhibition of Virtual Reality at the Ruins of St. Paul’s” from 14 to 17 January (that is, from Tuesday to Friday). In order to ensure public safety and meet the needs for the implementation of the said maintenance works, the exhibition will be temporarily closed to the public. During this period, the area behind the façade of the Ruins of St. Paul’s will remain open to the public and its opening hours will remain unchanged.

UM releases macroeconomic forecast for Macao 2025
The Centre for Macau Studies and the Department of Economics of the University of Macau (UM) have released the macroeconomic forecast for Macao 2025. The global economic outlook faces downward risks due to the significant slowdown in China’s economic growth and the uncertainties brought about by various countries’ economic policies. The research team predicts that Macao’s baseline GDP growth in 2025 will be 7.7%, while the baseline forecasts for other major economic variables are: exports of services will grow by 7.6%; private consumption expenditure will increase by 3.1%; the inflation rate will be 1.1%; the overall unemployment rate will be 1.8%; the unemployment rate of Macao residents will be 2.3%; and the Macao SAR Government’s current revenue will be MOP 111.8 billion.

Macao Orchestra’s “Concert of Love in Seoul” unveiling the romantic melodies by “The Goddess of Flute” Jasmine Choi
Presented by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Macao Orchestra Company, Limited and Sands China Ltd., the “Concert of Love in Seoul” will be held on 15 February 2025 (Saturday), at 8pm, at The Venetian Theatre. The concert features three renowned musicians from South Korea, namely flutist Jasmine Choi, soprano Lee Myung-Joo, and conductor Sunwook Kim, the Music Director of Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra, in collaboration with the Macao Orchestra, presenting a romantic night of music. The concert is part of the Sands China Performing Arts Programme, and tickets are now on sale at the Macau Ticketing Network and Cotai Ticketing.

MPU Receives IELTS Testing Point Premier Member Award
To contribute to the development of Macao as a base for international examinations and language training, the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) has been expanding its international and national examination and certification services over the years. The MPU-Bell Centre of English is the first centre in Macao to be a testing point partner of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and has been committed to providing candidates with a professional examination environment since then. It has been awarded the IELTS Testing Point Premium Member Award for this year, making it the only institution in Macao to receive this honour.
