UM receives Medal of Merit from Macao SAR government
The Macao SAR government today (18 February) held a ceremony to award decorations, medals, and certificates of merit to individuals and organisations in recognition of their achievements and contributions to society. Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng officiated at the ceremony. The State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine (SKL-QRCM) of the University of Macau (UM) and UM Vice Rector Rui Martins were awarded the Medal of Merit – Professions and the Medal of Merit – Education, respectively, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the fields of Chinese medical sciences and education.

Business climate survey on restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for December 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 56% of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments reporting a year-on-year rise in receipts or steady performance in December 2021, a growth of 6 percentage points from November; the corresponding proportion of Japanese & Korean Restaurants (44%) rose by 20 percentage points. Meanwhile, the proportion of interviewed retailers recording a year-on-year sales rise or stable performance in December (66%) went up by 10 percentage points from the previous month. The corresponding proportions of Watches, Clocks & Jewellery Retailers (77%) and Motor Vehicle Retailers (46%) both increased by 27 percentage points, and the shares of Supermarkets (78%) and Leather Goods Retailers (80%) grew by 22 percentage points and 20 percentage points respectively. For the Business Performance Index (BPI) that reflects the trend of year-on-year changes in business receipts, the value for restaurants & similar establishments (41.2) was lower than 50 in December 2021, indicating that the business performance of the industry was less satisfactory compared to the same month in 2020. On the other hand, the BPI for retail trade (58.6) was higher than 50, implying that the business of the industry fared better than in December 2020.

IFTM in collaboration with ADM to present Macanese Food Promotion
A Macanese FoodPromotion will be hostedjointly by the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) and the Associação dos Macaenses (ADM) from 21 to 25 February 2022 to promote Macao’s gastronomic culture. The IFTM Educational Restaurant will, in collaboration with ADM and Ms. Marina de Senna Fernandes, present nearly 20 classic Macanese dishes to promote the region’s unique Macanese gastronomy. In 2021, IFTM was appointed as the protection unit for national intangible cultural heritage linked to Macanese Gastronomy. To this end, the Institute offered Macanese gastronomy cooking courses. IFTM has also launched a web version of the Macanese Cuisine Database in collaboration with the Macao Government Tourism Office, the Cultural Affairs Bureau, theInternational Institute of Macau, and other organisations. Additionally, the Institute set up a dedicated space for Macanese cuisine data in its library, which is home to a variety of classic recipes, manuscripts, Macanese culinary books, and publications.

Enrollment starts from February 21 to 25, 2022 for “Vocational Training Program with Subsidy” organized by DSAL

The “Vocational Training Program with Subsidy” (Employment Oriented Training Program) organized by the Labor Affairs Bureau (DSAL) in accordance with Administrative Regulation No. 14/2021 and No. 33/2020 will be opened for enrollment from February 21 to 25.
The "Employment Oriented Training Program" consists of "Skills Training" and "Employment Referral". Trainees who complete the course and cooperate with the employment referral could receive a training subsidy of up to MOP 6,656. Macao residents who are unemployed due to the termination of labor relations on or after January 1, 2019, or unemployed higher education graduates in 2020 are qualified for enrollment.
In response to the market needs, a “Administrative Officer Work Operations” conducted in English (co-organized with Macao Institute for Tourism Studies) will be launched in this phase. Online enrollment and enrollment in person at the DSAL Office are both available. Macao Good Shop opens at the airport to promote cultural and creative products
The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), in cooperation with Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM), has set up the “Macao Good Shop—Macao Cultural and Creative Products Store” at the Macau International Airport in order to sell original local cultural and creative products as well as IC publications, so as to promote local cultural and creative brands to tourists and residents. IC hopes to provide a sales platform for Macao’s cultural and creative products, enhance the popularity and market competitiveness of local cultural and creative brands and promote the sustainable development of Macao’s cultural and creative industries through the establishment of the “Macao Good Shop—Macao Cultural and Creative Products Store”.

Private sector construction and real estate transactions for the 4th quarter of 2021
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 1,962 building units and parking spaces were purchased and sold in the fourth quarter of 2021 as per Stamp Duty record, and the total value of transactions was MOP9.92 billion, down by 7.5% and 25.7% respectively quarter-to-quarter. Purchase and sale of residential units decreased by 316 quarter-to-quarter to 1,221 units, and the total transaction value fell by 22.8% to MOP8.12 billion. Existing residential units transacted totalled 1,037, a drop of 371 units; the transaction value went down by 28.4% to MOP6.92 billion. Number of pre-sale residential units transacted increased by 55 quarter-to-quarter to 184, amounting to MOP1.20 billion, up by 39.8%.
