The film “The Legend of the Macau Grand Prix”, produced by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) was officially selected as one of the six nominations for the “Best Event Film” category at the “International Motor Film Awards 2021”. Employment survey for April-June 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the general unemployment rate for April-June 2021 was 2.9% and the unemployment rate of local residents was 3.9%, down by 0.1 and 0.2 percentage points respectively from the previous period (March-May 2021). In addition, the underemployment rate dropped by 0.7 percentage points to 3.5%.


Transport and communications statistics for June 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that licensed motor vehicles in Macao totalled 244,946 as at end-June 2021, up by 2.0% year-on-year. Light automobiles (112,126) and heavy motorcycles (103,852) went up by 2.3% and 3.6% year-on-year respectively. New registration of motor vehicles in June rose by 9.1% year-on-year to 1,105, with that of light automobiles (497) lifting by 38.1% whereas that of heavy motorcycles (563) falling by 9.5%. In the first half year of 2021, new registration of motor vehicles increased by 22.7% year-on-year to 6,497. There were 1,062 traffic accidents recorded in June, with 359 persons injured. In the first half year, total number of traffic accidents reached 6,266, which involved 2,146 injuries.

DSEC Enhanced Interdepartmental Co-operation to Ensure a Smooth Census Operation

To ensure a smooth operation of the 2021 Population Census, which will begin in August, the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) strengthened communication and co-operation with various public departments on the planning for different aspects of the operation, such as timely delivery of notification letters to all households in Macao, protection of data, implementation of pandemic prevention measures and the effective discharge of duties by Census officers.


The Financial Intelligence Office (GIF) participated actively in virtual meetings with international organizations

Since late April 2020, the Director of the Financial Intelligence Office (GIF) has been formally appointed as the Co-chair of the Asia/Pacific Joint Group (APJG), a regional sub-group of the International Cooperation Review Group (ICRG), which is responsible for establishing sanction and monitoring lists under the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an international anti-money laundering organization.


Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for June 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 116 hotels & guesthouses were open for business in June 2021, an increase of 7 year-on-year; number of available guest rooms rose by 1.7% to 35,000. Data on hotels & guesthouses designated for medical observation were excluded in the compilation of the results. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms surged by 33.5 percentage points year-on-year to 45.3%; however, the rate represented a drop of 16.8 percentage points compared with May (62.1%) on account of the reinforced pandemic prevention and control measures in Guangdong Province and Macao in early June.

Applications for the “6th Subsidy Programme for the Production of Original Song Albums” of the Cultural Affairs Bureau open from 16 August

The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym) is accepting applications for the “6th Subsidy Programme for the Production of Original Song Albums” from 16 August until 30 September. This year’s Programme comprises two categories: the album category and the mini album category, with each selected album being granted a subsidy of up to MOP270,000 and MOP135,000 respectively, as well as professional advice from members of the jury. The subsidy will be given to a maximum of three and six beneficiaries for the album and mini album categories respectively.
