The 12th Macao International Trade & Investment Fair (MIF) Showcasing Macao’s New Dynamics Advancing Opportunities of the Trade and Economic Co-operation Platform


Organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), co-organised by the Macao Chamber of Commerce, Industrial Association of Macao, Macao Importers and Exporters Association, Association of Knitting and Spinning Industry of Macao, Macao Shipper’s Association, The Macao Association of Banks, Macao Association of Building Contractors and Developers, The Macao Small and Medium Enterprises Association, The Macao Chinese Enterprises Association, Chongqing Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Commission, The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong, and coordinated by the Macao Convention and Exhibition Association, the Macau Fair and Trade Association and the Association of Advertising Agents of Macau, the “12th Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (MIF)” will be held at The Cotai StripTM Convention and Exhibition Center at the Venetian® Macao from 18th to 21st of October 2007. The MIF, being a major economic activity, has also emerged to be an international economic event in Macao. Having attracted the participation of local and overseas government delegates, business leaders, international corporations, professional visitors and investors, the MIF is an ideal gathering point for political and economic dignitaries to foster international ties. The MIF is committed to providing a service platform for trade and investment, promotion and publicity as well as establishment of international connections, assisting the business sector to devise strategies and exploit business opportunities. Exhibition Scale Almost Tripled The MIF this year has a total of 889 booths, representing a significant increase by 1.7 times compared with the 326 booths last year. The exhibitors comprise 31 countries and regions, namely the Mainland, Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, East Timor, USA, Canada, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Czech, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, UK, Chile, South Africa, Dubai, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong and Macao. Compared with last year, the number of participating countries rose 48%. Main Pavilions Regarding the exhibition, the MIF this year takes the advantage of Macao as a service platform, featuring a number of thematic pavilions, namely “Macao Pavilion”, “Finance Pavilion”, “EU Pavilion”, “Portuguese Speaking Countries Pavilion”, “China’s Provinces and Cities Pavilion”, American Corner”, “Portugal Pavilion”, “German Guild Hall”, “International Trade and Investment Promotion Agencies Pavilion”, “International Convention and Exhibition Pavilion”, “Macao and International Enterprises Pavilion”, and “Small and Medium Enterprises Pavilion”, etc. In addition, there are “MICE Incubator Pavilions” and “World Chinese Entrepreneurs Innovation Award 2007 Pavilion”. Trade and Economic Co-operation Platform To Foster International Ties Up to the present moment, we have received the registration of 236 delegations from 50 countries and regions to participate in the MIF. Compared with last year, the number has increased by approximately 60%. The MIF is an ideal gathering place for political and economic dignitaries to foster international ties. Extensive Participation of Business Sector in Macao Under the strong support of the local chambers of commerce, there are altogether 27 local chambers participating in the exhibition and conference activities. They have demonstrated the highest degree of participation compared with the past years, including the organization of “Small and Medium Enterprises Pavilion” by Macao Chamber of Commerce and IPIM, “Flying Macao Pavilion” by Industrial Association of Macau, Macao Importers and Exporters Association, Association of Knitting and Spinning Industry of Macao and Macau Shipper’s Association. In addition to displaying products made and traded in Macao, this pavilion will add in four dynamic elements, including fashion show, DIY, food tasting and information display. Organised by Macao Association of Building Contractors and Developers, Association of Property Agents & Reality Developers of Macau, Macau General Association of Real Estate, Associacao Comercial de Fomento Predial de Macau, the “Macao – An Ideal Place to Live” pavilion showcases the advantages of the real estate industry in Macao. German - Macau Business Association, organiser of “German Guild Hall”, has invited 15 German corporations to participate, including such reputable corporations as Siemens, Lufthansa, Porsche, Euro-Asia Ltd, etc. Besides, there are a number of local government and chambers of commerce participating in the MIF as exhibitors for the first time, including the “Finance Pavilion” organised by Monetary Authority of Macao and co-organised by the Macao Association of Banks and Macau Insurers’ Association, the pavilions of Chaozhou, Shantou and Jieyang organised by Chaozhou-Shantou chamber of commerce in Macao. This pavilion is presented in a huge scale, extending an exhibition floor area of 152 booths, of which Chaozhou City makes up 36 booths, Shantou City 36 booths and Jieyang City 80 booths. This pavilion fully reflects the business and investment environment and export products of the 3 cities, including stainless steel goods, ceramics, jades, food, textiles, home appliances, cosmetics, plastic goods, toys, stationery, etc. The American Corner, organised by AmCham comprises such renowned corporations as Venetian, Wynn, MGM, etc. The MIF also features “MICE Incubator Pavilions”, providing exhibitors and chambers of commerce with a platform for practice. The MIF of this year sees the set up of “Tourism and Leisure Products Pavilion”, “Exhibition Services and Equipment Supplies Pavilion”, “General Commodities Pavilion”. For the first time, the World Federation of Chinese Entrepreneurs Organization has set up the “World Chinese Entrepreneurs Innovation Award 2007 Pavilion”, made up of 27 booths. The “Digital Pavilion” which attracted a great many businesspeople and visitors during the 9th and 10th MIFs, returns again to the MIF this year, and is going to display on site the latest models of photographic equipment, optical apparatus, digital products and high definition products of international brand name. Small and Medium Enterprises Pavilion In order to further encourage the small and medium enterprises to make use of the MIF to carry out promotion and publicity, open up markets and develop platforms of exchange and co-operation, the MIF introduces the new “Small and Medium Enterprises Pavilion” this year, which is organised jointly by Macao Chamber of Commerce and IPIM, and co-organised by The Macao Small and Medium Enterprises Association and Macao Businesswomen Association. The “Small and Medium Enterprises Pavilion” started to receive registrations in June earlier this year. Owing to favorable responses, the number of booths has increased from the original 100 to 115. The types of products extend across 11 industries. The small and medium enterprises in Macao will take advantage of the MIF to exploit new business opportunities by displaying and selling products made and traded in Macao. All are welcome to visit this Pavilion. Service Platform for the Economic Co-operation between China and Portuguese Speaking Countries – A distinguishing feature of the MIF Macao’s role as a service platform for the economic co-operation between China and Portuguese speaking countries is one of the distinguishing features in the MIF. This year, the “Portugal Pavilion” has further expanded to 38 booths and is organised jointly by AICEP and AIP. Over 40 enterprises participate in the exhibition with products ranging from wines, olive oil, pork-preserved ham, traditional sausages, agricultural products, food, coffee and electrical apparatus, etc. Service industries include banks and logistics, etc. Organised by the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese –speaking Countries (Macau) and IPIM, the “Portugal Pavilion” has invited successfully the participation of trade promotion institutes of 7 Portuguese speaking countries who also organize economic delegations. The other exhibitors of “Portugal Pavilion” include International Lusophone Markets Business Association, The Council for Brazil-China Economic & Trade Promotion (CBCDE), and Macau Chamber of Industry and Commerce Brazil-China. Their participation has further enhanced the function of Macao as a service platform for the economic co-operation between China and Portuguese speaking countries. The biggest pavilion in the MIF this year is “China’s Provinces and Cities Pavilion” comprising a total of 380 booths. Apart from the sizeable pavilions made up of 152 booths of the above mentioned Chaozhou City, Shantou City and Jieyang City, the other provinces and cities which have set up sizeable pavilions include Hunan Province (16 booths), Fujian Province (12 booths), Jiangxi Province (9 booths), Jiaqing City (32 booths), Fuzhou City (12 booths), Chongqing City (6 booths), and more. New EU Pavilion Macao possesses a long history of economic ties with Europe. During the second half of this year, Portugal is holding the presidency of the European Union by rotation. Under the coordination of the Office of the European Commission in Hong Kong and Macao and AICEP, the MIF has established the “EU Pavilion” this year, whose participating countries include Austria, Belgium, Czech, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, UK, European Commission, Euro-Info Centre Macau and the Institute of European Studies in Macao, thereby enhancing the exchange and ties among EU countries, the Mainland and Macao, and creating new development opportunities for trade and economic co-operation between China and Europe. Introduction of International Convention and Exhibition Pavilion, MIF “International Advisory Committee” and “Macao International Exhibition CEO Conference 2007” In order to further promote the development of the MIF, IPIM has established fair partnership with a number of corporations and institutions. Up to the present day, the MIF has signed “partner fair” agreements with 10 internationally renowned brand name fairs. The MIF this year introduces for the first time the “International Convention and Exhibition Pavilion”, providing a platform for international exhibition corporations to promote their fairs. The Pavilion comprises 15 organisations which promote a number of exhibitions, including Shanghai World Expo 2010, Worldexchina Exhibition & Promotion Co., China International Fair For Investment & Trade, International China Harbin Fair for Trade and Economic Cooperation, China Yiwu International Commodities Fair, Global Resources, ASAP, JMA Macau, Macau International Jewelry & Watch Fair, Global Auto Parts & Accessories Show-Macao 2008, International Wine & Gourmet Foods, Hotel & Foodservice Equipment, Supplies & Services Exhibition & Conference 2007, The 3rd International Hotel Equipment & Supplies Expo, and 2008 Macao International Environment Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (MIECF) to be held in Macao in 2008. IPIM has invited 7 internationally authoritative MICE personalities to act as advisors to the MIF international advisory committee, to provide professional advice on the local MICE industry. Advisors who have confirmed their participation as speakers in the Macao International Exhibition CEO Conference 2007, organised by IPIM and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, include Mr. Sandy Angus (former President of UFI), Madam Chan Yeuk Mei (former Vice-President of UFI) and Mr. Stanley Chu (Chairman of Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Industry Association). Forums and Conferences – Latest Market Information, In Pursuit of New Opportunities For Trade and Investment
With regard to forums and conferences, the main programme this year will be held in Sicily and Naples Rooms of Venetian, which includes the “International Trade and Investment Forum 2007” on 18th October, co-organised by IPIM, Investment Promotion Agency of Ministry of Commerce of the PRC and Macao Chamber of Commerce, the “Macao International Exhibition CEO Conference 2007” on 18th October, organised by IPIM and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and “European Union - Fujian - Macao Economic Cooperation Seminar” on 19th October organised by IPIM, Fujian Provincial Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, Portuguese Business Development Agency and European Chamber of Commerce in China. Besides, there are over 30 sessions of seminars and presentations of products and services, and for countries and regions. The presentations for countries and regions include “EU Patent and Trade Marks” on 18th October, the economic presentations on 19th October for Angola, Poland, India, Shaanxi Province and Guangzhou City, and the presentation of Cape Verde on 20th October. Presentations for cooperation between China and Portuguese speaking countries include “China and the Portuguese-Speaking Countries - Products Sourcing - 2007” on 19th October jointly organised by International Lusophone Markets Business Association and Fujian Provincial Economy & Trade Committee and the “Presentation Session on the potential for developing the scientific and technological cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries” on 20th October organised by the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese –speaking Countries (Macau). On 19th October, there will be the “Successful Branding vs Advertising Excellent” Conference organised by The Association of Advertising Agents of Macau. On 20th October, Macau Businesswomen Association will hold the “Day of two years anniversary” and "The Special features glorious placard" award presentation. Moreover, the programme includes also numerous seminars and presentations of products organised by enterprises, such as wine and olive oil tastings, photographic seminar, high definition filming technology, wealth management, human resources and many more. Business Matching/Buyers’ Corner – Expanded Scale and Enriched Contents The MIF this year has expanded the business matching area and enriched the contents. In addition to the provision of business matching service in and outside the venue, we have introduced the “project matching” service since investors had showed their interests in investment project, and have invited the visiting delegations to provide their key investment projects in order to improve the quality and quantity of projects. Furthermore, we are offering this year a new service – “delegation business matching by registration”, by which the participants may meet with the delegations for business negotiations according to a preset timetable. The MIF will continue to offer the Buyers’ Corner in order to invite international merchandising corporations from Macao and overseas to carry out their purchasing activities. Enhanced “On Site Services” It has always been the aim of the MIF to provide local and overseas participants with all round services. Survey In order to obtain more scientific and systematic conclusions for the different activities held during the 12th MIF with the objective of improving and perfecting the competence and standard of the organization of the event, the organisers have entrusted the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University of Macau to conduct a survey on the 12th MIF. Electronic Registration System The MIF has launched the electronic registration system for the first time, which prints the badges with a barcode. By means of the system, we can obtain more accurate statistical data and information to improve the professional standard of the event. Shuttle Buses and Parking Arrangements To facilitate visitors and local residents to take part in this remarkable international event of Macao, the organisers will provide again this year free shuttle buses for MIF participants, with stations at Macau Square (Av. Dr. Mario Soares), in Av. Guangdong (in front of Hung Fat Gardens opposite to Crown Macau in Taipa), and at the official hotels. For driving visitors, they may park their cars free of charge at the specially reserved outdoor car parking spaces at Macau Dome and then take connecting shuttle buses running to and from the MIF venue.
