Results of the Service Sector Survey 2008(Real Estate Management, Security, Cleaning, Advertising and Conference & Exhibition Organizing Services)


Coverage of the 2008 Service Sector Survey included Real Estate Management, Security, Cleaning, Advertising and Conference & Exhibition Organizing Services. According to the survey results, principal operating indicators of 2008 registered year-on-year increases. In 2008, there were 165 establishments of Real Estate Management, engaging a total of 4,928 persons (+5.1%). Total Receipts and Expenditure amounted to MOP 852 million and MOP 640 million, up by 10.8% and 7.6% respectively. Gross Value Added that measures the sectoral contribution to the economy reached MOP 549 million, an increase of 11.6%; however, Gross Fixed Capital Formation decreased significantly by 81.2% to MOP 3.8 million. Establishments of Security Services increased by 1 over 2007 to 11, with a total of 3,844 persons engaged (+5.2%). Total Receipts (MOP 548 million) and Total Expenditure (MOP 446 million) grew by 19.1% and 24.3% respectively; in addition, Gross Value Added (MOP 477 million) and Gross Fixed Capital Formation (MOP 9.4 million) also registered increases of 18.9% and 46.7% respectively. Meanwhile, there were 100 establishments providing Cleaning Services, an increase of 13 over 2007; number of persons engaged totalled 2,824 (+14.5%). Total Receipts and Total Expenditure stood at MOP 276 million and MOP 240 million, up by 23.5% and 26.2% respectively. Gross Value Added increased by 29.3% to MOP 225 million, but Gross Fixed Capital Formation dropped by 21.2% to MOP 4.3 million. Advertising Agencies registered a year-on-year increase of 22 to 322 in 2008, engaging a total of 976 persons (+19.9%), with the lowest percentage share of paid employees (73.7%) among the service industries covered. Total Receipts rose by 25.6% to MOP 307 million, of which receipts from advertising services amounted to MOP 186 million (60.6% of total) and that from conference & exhibition organizing services totalled MOP 113 million. Total Expenditure went up by 32.4% to MOP 278 million, with costs of Purchase (MOP 162 million) and Compensation of Employees (MOP 74.5 million) rising by 44.5% and 39.7% respectively. Gross Value Added and Gross Fixed Capital Formation amounted to MOP 103 million and MOP 8.4 million, up by 19.8% and 87.6% respectively. Establishments of Conference & Exhibition Organizing Services increased by 6 over 2007 to 16 and the total number of persons engaged was 64. Total Receipts surged by 452.3% to MOP 52.7 million, with the receipts from provision of conference & exhibition organizing services sharing 94.4% of total (MOP 49.7 million). Total Expenditure soared by 355.6% to MOP 48.7 million, of which costs of Purchases (MOP 36.1 million) jumped by 553.6% year-on-year. Gross Value Added and Gross Fixed Capital Formation stood at MOP 10.4 million and MOP 0.4 million, up by 425.5% and 44.2% respectively.
