Light up Macao 2024 ends and sparks vitality of nighttime tourism
“Light up Macao 2024” (referred to as the “event”) has come to an end. Across districts and cultures from 2024 to 2025, the event sparked the charm of “tourism + events” in Macao and increased the flow of people into different districts, invigorating both the community tourism and nighttime economy.

Commemorative postmark cancellation service of “World Forest Day”
To celebrate the World Forest Day, Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau announces that a Temporary Post Counter will be set up at Senado Square, from 10:00 to 17:00 on 21st March 2025 to provide commemorative postmark cancellation service for the “World Forest Day”.

Programme of the “Culture City of East Asia 2025” starts with the Macao International Parade promoting exchange and understanding between the Chinese and Western civilizations
Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), SJM Resorts, S.A., Sands China Ltd., MGM, Galaxy Entertainment Group, Wynn Resorts (Macau), S.A. and Melco Resorts & Entertainment, the “2025 Macao International Parade”, celebrating the 26th Anniversary of Macao’s Return to the Motherland, will be held on 23 March (Sunday). Upholding the spirit of “Love, Peace and Cultural Integration” while also promoting Macao’s designation as a “Culture City of East Asia 2025”, the Parade will mark the opening of the “Culture City of East Asia 2025” under the theme of “East-West Encounter, Asia in Harmony” in order to establish an international exchange platform and showcase the charm of Macao’s multicultural integration, creating a vital window for exchange and mutual understanding between Chinese and Western civilizations.

As Macao was designated a “Culture City of East Asia 2025”, the Macao SAR Government launches its respective programme under the theme “East-West Encounter, Asia in Harmony”, which features a series of activities, including the opening ceremony, the presentation of original musical compositions, public art work from China, Japan and South Korea, as well as an exchange programme targeted at youth. The initiative also incorporates East Asian cultural elements in various major events, further solidifying Macao’s role as “a base for exchange and cooperation where Chinese culture is the mainstream and diverse cultures coexist”, showcasing the charm of Chinese culture to the world, and promoting international cultural and artistic exchange.

MGTO optimizes Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme and calls for applications from catering businesses and travel agencies starting tomorrow (7 March)
The Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme (“QTSAS” or “the Scheme”) of 2025 welcomes applications from the catering and travel agency sectors from 7 to 31 March. A presentation seminar was held by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) today (6 March) to call for applications and introduce the optimized program and new awards. Accredited merchants were encouraged to keep on their participation and jointly enhance the quality of Macao tourism services to manifest Macao’s unique glamour and spirit of warm hospitality.

International experts gather at UM to discuss TNFR2 immunoregulation and innovative drug development
The International Symposium on TNFR2 Immunobiology and Immunopharmacology was held at the University of Macau (UM). The event brought together renowned experts and scholars from prestigious institutions worldwide, including Harvard University, University of Oxford, Yale University, and Johns Hopkins University, as well as R&D professionals from the pharmaceutical industry. The two-day symposium provided a valuable platform for exchange and cooperation among experts in life sciences from Macao and mainland China, allowing young researchers to interact with internationally renowned scientists.

“2024 Hong Kong-Macao Visual Art Biennale” opens at the Art Museum of Nanjing University of the Arts in March
Organised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, and presented by the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government and the China Arts and Entertainment Group Ltd., the “Hong Kong-Macao Visual Art Biennale” will be held from 5 March to 1 April at the Art Museum of the Nanjing University of the Arts, presenting the contemporary cultural landscapes and spirits of the two cities.

Applications for the 43rd Macao Young Musicians Competition open in late March
Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from its Portuguese acronym), the 43rd Macao Young Musicians Competition, dedicated to the piano category, will be held from 19 to 31 July this year. The competition rules and competition repertoire will be announced on 7 March at 10am on the Competition’s website (https://www.icm.gov.mo/CJMM). Applications will be open from 10am on 27 March to 4pm on 2 April. All eligible individuals are welcome to register.

Supporting Overseas Expansion into Portuguese-speaking Countries – IPIM Team Visits Fortune 500 Companies in Guangzhou and Shenzhen for Exchanges
The Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) of the Macao SAR and the Macau Association of Banks carried out investment promotion initiatives in Guangzhou and Shenzhen from 3 to 4 March, motivating businesses in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to engage with the market of Portuguese-speaking countries via Macao, known as the “Precise Connector” linking China and Portuguese-speaking countries. During their visit to Guangzhou and Shenzhen, the IPIM team met with many local government departments, commerce and trade associations, and two Fortune 500 companies, Encouraging the companies to leverage the Macao platform to streamline their investment strategies in Portuguese-speaking countries and secure collaboration opportunities for future international market expansions.
