International banking statistics – September 2021

According to the statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, the proportion of international business in the local banking sector retreated in the third quarter of 2021. At end-September 2021, the share of international assets in total banking assets decreased to 85.9% from 86.2% at end-June 2021, while the share of international liabilities in total banking liabilities fell to 83.8% from 83.9%.

GMBPF Establishes a Co-operation Platform for Guangdong and Macao and Helps Enterprises Explore Business Opportunities amid the Epidemic

The “2021 Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair” (2021GMBPF) will be held at The Venetian Macao from 26 to 28 November. The three-day GMBPF will continue to integrate trade, cultural exchanges, shopping, leisure, and entertainment, and will enhance business matching to provide a business and trade exchange and co-operation platform for trade visitors. The online business matching services will start from 15 November to provide 14 days of service for exhibitors and buyers to establish business contacts online. Some exhibiting enterprises agree that the GMBPF Guided Tour organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) last year helped enterprises reach new customers and navigate through the epidemic.

Eligibility criteria for the third dose of COVID-19 vaccine to be further relaxed from today

The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre (hereinafter referred to as “the Centre”) announces further relaxation of the eligibility criteria to book for the third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Starting from today, all individuals aged 18 years or above who have completed two doses of inactivated COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months ago and without contraindications are now eligible to book an appointment for receiving the third dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Those who have received two doses of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months ago may also book for the third dose if they meet the following conditions: 1) Aged 60 years or above; 2) Aged 18-59 years with a weaker immune system, or 3) Aged 18-59 years susceptible to greater exposure risk or greater health consequences if infected.


Foreign exchange reserves and nominal effective exchange rate index for the pataca – October 2021

The Monetary Authority of Macao announced today that the preliminary estimate of Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves amounted to MOP213.2 billion (USD26.61 billion) at the end of October 2021. The reserves increased by 1.0% from the revised value of MOP211.0 billion (USD26.31 billion) for the previous month. Macao SAR’s foreign exchange reserves at end-October 2021 represented 11 times the currency in circulation or 88.4% of pataca M2 at end-September 2021.
