Gross domestic product (GDP) for the 4th quarter and the whole year of 2019
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) dropped by 8.1% year-on-year in real terms in the fourth quarter of 2019, a steeper decline compared to the previous quarter, which was mainly attributable to a further decrease in exports of services. External demand continued to slow; exports of services fell by 7.5% year-on-year, with exports of gaming services and other tourism services reducing by 9.8% and 7.0% respectively. Exports of goods went down by 6.2%. As regards domestic demand, investment plunged by 13.9% year-on-year, whereas private consumption expenditure and government final consumption expenditure rose by 2.7% and 1.9% respectively.

Results of retail sales survey for 4th Quarter of 2019
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that value of retail sales for the fourth quarter of 2019 increased by 4.3% year-on-year to MOP20.72 billion and sales volume index rose by 5.7%.

External merchandise trade statistics for January 2020
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that total merchandise export for January 2020 amounted to MOP1.15 billion, down by 24.8% year-on-year. Value of re-exports (MOP996 million) decreased by 28.3%, with that of Diamond & diamond jewellery and Watches tumbling by 76.4% and 44.5% respectively. Value of domestic exports (MOP154 million) rose by 9.8%, with that of Garments surging by 428.0%. Total merchandise import slid by 3.6% year-on-year to MOP8.48 billion, of which imports of Motor cars & motorcycles and Mobile phones declined by 58.3% and 33.3% respectively; meanwhile, imports of Beauty, cosmetic & skin-care products and Handbags & wallets expanded by 55.2% and 22.3% respectively. Merchandise trade deficit in January totalled MOP7.33 billion.

Individuals having visited Italy or Iran to undergo 14-day medical observation in isolation upon arrival, effective from noon today (29thFebruary)
According to the information of the World Health Organization, Italy and Iran are experiencing severe outbreaks of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection with cases exported to multiple countries. In order to step up prevention, the MSAR Government has decided that starting from 12:00 noon today (29th February), individuals who have been to Italy or Iran within the past 14 days prior to their entry into Macao must, at the discretion of the health authorities, undergo medical observation in isolation for 14 days at a designated venue, without prejudice to other epidemic prevention measures of the MSAR Government. For Macao residents, medical observation can be carried out at a domestic venue deemed appropriate by the health authorities, whereas non-Macao residents will be placed at a designated hotel at their own expenses.

Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for January 2020
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 122 hotels & guesthouses operating at the end of January 2020, an increase of 5 year-on-year. Number of available guest rooms remained steady at 39,000. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms fell by 13.5 percentage points year-on-year to 79.4%; the rates of 3-star hotels (81.9%) and 5-star hotels (80.4%) dropped by 12.8 percentage points and 14.5 percentage points respectively.

The Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM) alerts the public to the money transfer service from Macao to the Philippines being offered through a social media account “Oversea Mama PH”. Such account is not an authorised entity to carry out regulated financial activities in the Macao Special Administrative Region.

Small and medium-sized enterprise credit statistics – Second half of 2019
According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, newly approved small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) credit retreated in the second half of 2019. On the other hand, the outstanding balance of SME loans rose year-on-year while the share of SME loans to major industries remained stable.

Special arrangement for services of the Shop of Communications Museum of CTT Macao starting from 2nd March 2020
