Monetary and financial statistics – March 2019
According to statistics released today by the Monetary Authority of Macao, broad money supply rebounded in March with a stable share of patacas. Meanwhile, both resident deposits and loans increased from a month earlier.

Visitor arrivals surged during Labor Day Holiday A series of continuous initiatives unfolded to optimize tourism environment
With the 1st May Labor Day holiday extended to span four days (1st – 4th May) in Mainland China, more Mainland residents were enticed to travel during the mentioned period, which, in addition to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge now in operation, led to a considerable year-on-year increase in total visitor arrivals to Macao. Provisional statistics revealed that Macao welcomed 636,644 visitors in total throughout the four-day holiday. The volume of visitors during the first three days of the Labor Day holiday increased year-on-year by 37.0%, compared with the three-day Labor Day holiday (29th April to 1st May) of 2018. During the Labor Day holiday, MGTO carried out more rigorous inspections against irregularities. During inspections, no sign of irregularities involving unlicensed tour guide was discovered. It was however discovered that there were a few locally-licensed tour guides leading tour groups without wearing their tour guide licenses. Highly concerned about the city’s tourism carrying capacity during festivals and holidays, MGTO actively carries out a diversity of measures to optimize the tourism environment.

Exhibition “Beauty in the New Era: Masterpieces from the Collection of the National Art Museum of China” inaugurated
Organized by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC), and supported by the Macao Government Tourism Office and the Macao Daily News, the exhibition “Beauty in the New Era: Masterpieces from the Collection of the National Art Museum of China” was inaugurated on 3 May, at 6:30pm, on the 4th floor of MAM. The opening ceremony was held in a lively atmosphere and was officiated by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Alexis Tam Chon Weng; the Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, Xue Xiaofeng; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mok Ian Ian; the Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; the Deputy Director of the National Art Museum of China, Zhang Qing; the Director of the Macao Daily News, Lok Po; the President of the Macau Artist Society, Lok Hei; the Executive Vice President of the Yu Un Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Association of Macao, Sio Chun Iun; and the Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Chan Kai Chon.

30th Macao Arts Festival inaugurated
The 30th Macao Arts Festival (MAF), organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, was inaugurated on Friday, 3 May, at 7:40pm, at the lobby of the Macao Cultural Centre Grand Auditorium. The opening ceremony was officiated by the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Alexis Tam Chon Weng; the Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, Xue Xiaofeng; the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mok Ian Ian; the Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes; the Member of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau, Van Mei Lin; the Deputy General Manager of Bank of China (Macau Branch), Geng Wei; the Director and Member of Executive Committee of Teledifusão de Macau, S.A., Lorman, Lo Song Man; the Vice President of Arts & Culture of MGM, Cristina Kuok; and the Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Leong Wai Man. A junior lion dance performance by MGM was also held. In order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Macao Arts Festival, the Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau set up a booth in the lobby of the Macao Cultural Centre to sell philatelic products.

7 May deadline for CE Election Committee candidature application
The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive Election has issued a reminder that the deadline for individuals interested in becoming a candidate for one of the available places on the Chief Executive Election Committee, is 6pm on 7 May (Tuesday).

Company statistics for the 1st quarter of 2019
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 1,613 new companies were incorporated in the first quarter of 2019, an increase of 160 year-on-year. The newly incorporated companies engaged mainly in Wholesale & Retail Trade (539), Business Services (470) and the Construction sector (169); total value of registered capital soared by 428.7% to MOP1.2 billion, of which MOP1.1 billion came from Financial Services. Besides, value of registered capital in the Transport, Storage & Communications sector rose by 23.8% year-on-year to MOP65 million, attributable to the incorporation of a number of passenger transport companies with larger capital during the quarter. Companies in dissolution totalled 210 in the first quarter, and the value of registered capital of companies in dissolution amounted to MOP81 million.
