All-out effort in preparation for forecast typhoons

The Secretary for Security, Mr Wong Sio Chak, today stressed that the Government had stepped up its preparation efforts in response to the anticipated arrival of two typhoons identified respectively by the names Barijat and Mangkhut.

Macao International Fireworks Display Contest reschedules fireworks displays this Saturday, 15 September for another date

According to the weather forecast of Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau, Macao will be under the influence of unstable weather conditions this weekend. Therefore, the fireworks displays (by French and Portuguese teams) originally scheduled on the third night, this Saturday (15 September) by the Macao International Fireworks Display Contest, as well as the Fireworks Carnival on the same night, will be rescheduled to another date. Residents’ and visitors’ kind attention and understanding for the above change are appreciated. The updated schedule of fireworks displays will be announced by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) at a later time and uploaded on MGTO’s website: http://fireworks.macaotourism.gov.mo.


Consumer Council released latest ‘Supermarket price survey’ Surveyed spots included 13 supermarkets in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish

Consumer Council conducted its second ‘Supermarket price survey’ on 12 September for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June. Surveyed locations included supermarkets near Iao Hon Market and the Border Gate area (Portas do Cerco ) in N. Sra. de Fátima Parish.



Images of UM name, Wall of Great Wisdom appear on international journal’s cover for the first time

A study on oligosaccharides (carbohydrate polymers that contain three to ten simple sugars) in lotus seeds, conducted by researchers from the University of Macau (UM), was recently featured in the internationally renowned journalElectrophoresis. The Wall of Great Wisdom, a gift to UM from the Ministry of Education, and a stamp of UM were used in the design of this issue’s cover. This is the first time that the sculpture and UM’s stamp have appeared in a journal’s cover. The cover design shows an aesthetically appealing mix of the symbol of UM’s liberal arts education and the symbol of Macao --- lotus, which nicely echoes the subject matter of the research study, the medicinal benefits of lotus seeds.


Macao Orchestra launches new “Young Audience Programme” and holds Experience Day on 6 October

The Macao Orchestra (OM, from the Portuguese acronym), under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, launches the “Young Audience Programme” in the new Concert Season, specially dedicated to local full-time students aged 25 or below, aiming to foster young audience’s artistic appreciation abilities and broaden their cultural and artistic horizons by organizing diversified music education and outreach activities. In addition, OM will hold a “Music Experience Day” on 6 October, from 9:45am to 1pm, allowing students to explore a number of extraordinary activities in search of the boundless fun of the music world. Students aged between 12 and 25 years of age are welcome to participate. Admission is free.


“Tap Siac Craft Market” held in November Stall registration for local and overseas stall operators opens from 13 September

Organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the “Tap Siac Craft Market” will be held from 16 to 18 November and from 23 to 25 November 2018 at Tap Siac Square. The Craft Market stall registration opens from 13 September. Applicants from Macao, Malaysia and Singapore are welcome to register until Friday, 5 October, at 5:30pm. Consumer Council and DSE met with wholesalers and retailers to ensure prices of daily commodities remain stable

As Macao is facing two typhoons this week, the Consumer Council and Economic Bureau (DSE) met with local wholesalers and retailers of groceries and bottled water this morning (12 Sept) to understand the current stock and supply. The SAR Government reaffirms that there is ample supply of all local daily necessities and supply is in smooth operation, the Consumer Council and DSE have requested the industry to ensure continuous supply of all types of products.
