Mortgage loans statistics – January 2025

According to statistics released today (12 March) by the Monetary Authority of Macao, new approvals of residential mortgage loans (RMLs) and commercial real estate loans (CRELs) both rose month-on-month in January 2025. With regard to the outstanding balances, RMLs dropped whereas CRELs witnessed an increment on a monthly basis.




35th Macao Arts Festival expands artistic horizons through Outreach Programme

35th Macao Arts Festival explores insights into growth and life forging a cultural bond among the Culture Cities of East Asia

Organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), the 35th Macao Arts Festival, themed “Growth”, features artistic works that bring insights into life in different stages. The Festival will present 15 selected programmes from 25 April to 31 May, covering theatre, Chinese opera, dance, music and visual arts, spinning dreams with threads of light and shadow and inviting the audience to grow and move forward together in the nourishment of arts.


Number bib collection for the 2025 Sands China Macao International 10K to start tomorrow

Organized by the Sports Bureau, Sands China Ltd. and the General Association of Athletics of Macau, the 2025 Sands China Macao International 10K will take place this Sunday (16 March). The 10K will start at 7 a.m. and the Fun Run at 7:45 a.m. at the Sai Van Lake Square, with both races finishing inside the Olympic Sports Centre Stadium.


2025MIECF Attracts Traders from Nearly 40 Countries and Regions and Expands Its International Circle of Friends

The 2025 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (2025MIECF) will be held from 27 to 29 March. This year’s event has attracted exhibitors, traders and delegations from nearly 40 countries and regions, representing a significant increase of 15% in the number of international participants from last year. This shows that the 2025MIECF has continued to expand its international circle of friends and has become increasingly internationalised.


Statistics on electronic payment transaction value – Restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade for January 2025

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) published the first release of “Statistics on Electronic Payment Transaction Value – Restaurants & Similar Establishments and Retail Trade”, which are compiled using data from major merchant acquirersnote in Macao, together with information from DSEC. According to the information from DSEC’s annual surveys on economic activities in 2023, electronic payment transaction values (hereinafter referred to as transaction values) accounted for about 70% to 80% of the receipts of restaurants & similar establishments and retail trade, which indicated that the transaction data are representative. Statistics on electronic payment transaction values are released on a monthly basis to ensure the relevance and timeliness of data, giving a clear overview of the latest performance of the two industries.


FSS Calls on Beneficiaries who Have Yet to Provide Proof of Life to Do it through the “Macao One Account” as Soon as Possible

Old-age and disability pension beneficiaries of the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) are required to provide annual proof of life. In 2025, there will be approximately 168,000 beneficiaries involved, and about 12,000 of them have yet to provide proof of life. The FSS reminds relevant beneficiaries to provide proof of life by the end of March. Due to previous incidents where scammers impersonated the FSS to send phishing text messages to residents, the FSS reiterates that it does not send mobile text messages with links. Residents are called on to remain vigilant and are encouraged to provide proof of life by logging in to the "Macao One Account" mobile app.
