FSS Calls on Beneficiaries who Have Yet to Provide Proof of Life to Do it through the “Macao One Account” as Soon as Possible

Old-age and disability pension beneficiaries of the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao) are required to provide annual proof of life. In 2025, there will be approximately 168,000 beneficiaries involved, and about 12,000 of them have yet to provide proof of life. The FSS reminds relevant beneficiaries to provide proof of life by the end of March. Due to previous incidents where scammers impersonated the FSS to send phishing text messages to residents, the FSS reiterates that it does not send mobile text messages with links. Residents are called on to remain vigilant and are encouraged to provide proof of life by logging in to the "Macao One Account" mobile app.


Exhibition from Macao “Above Zobeide” at La Biennale di Venezia inaugurated revealing the metaphorical realism of an imaginary city

Organised by the Macao Museum of Art, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the exhibition “Above Zobeide – Art from Macao at the 60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia” was inaugurated today (7 March) on the first floor of the Macao Museum of Art. The opening ceremony was officiated by the President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Leong Wai Man; the Deputy Director of the Department of Publicity and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, Bai Bing; the President of the Macau Artist Society, Lok Hei; the exhibition artist, Wong Weng Cheong; and the curator, Chang Chan. The exhibition is not to be missed as it explores global issues from Macao’s perspective by questioning identity in a dystopia.

Call for papers for the Review of Culture: Macao as a “Culture City of East Asia 2025”

Macao has been selected as a “Culture City of East Asia 2025”, and the Government will launch a programme of activities this year under the theme “East–West Encounter, Asia in Harmony” to showcase the unique cultural appeal of the city. To explore, in a greater depth, the historical and cultural significance of the city as an important node along the Maritime Silk Road, the Review of Culture (RC) is now launching a call for papers related to the theme by academics and specialists, at national and international level.


MPU Holds Sino-Portuguese Cultural Festival to Promote Multicultural Exchange

The Student Affairs Office of Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) organised the third Sino-Portuguese Cultural Festival, themed "Chinese-Portuguese Convergence: Flourishing Talents", to promote Sino-Portuguese multicultural exchange. The event featured a variety of music and dance performances, along with international food stalls where students from different countries showcased their culinary specialities and experienced cultural diversity, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere.


The Preservation and Display Area of the Archaeological Remains of the Pit in Rua de D. Belchior Carneiro will be closed from 10 March due to works of backfilling

In order to strengthen the protection and use of the archaeological remains of the Pit in Rua de D. Belchior Carneiro, and taking into account the conservation recommendations made by experts from the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC, from the Portuguese acronym), after evaluation and analysis, plans to take measures to protect and execute the backfill of the relevant archaeological remains of the Pit, thereby facilitating their conservation. From 10 March this year, the protective backfilling work will begin at the site of the Pit in Rua de D. Belchior Carneiro. Due to the need to carry out this work and to ensure public safety, the Preservation and Display Area of the Archaeological Remains of the Pit and the Permanent Exhibition the ‘Maritime Silk Road and Macao’ will be temporarily closed to the public. The mentioned works are expected to be completed by early May, and the reopening date of the above areas will be announced in due course. IC thanks the the public’s attention and understanding.


Tsinghua University students visit UM for exchanges

A delegation of 19 students and faculty from Weixian College of Tsinghua University, all from engineering and materials science disciplines, participated in an exchange programme at Lui Che Woo College (LCWC) of the University of Macau (UM). The exchange programme aimed to enable them to learn about UM and its unique residential college system, and promote cultural exchange and enhance student leadership.


Residential property price index for November 2024 – January 2025

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the overall residential property price index for November 2024 - January 2025 was 204.2, down by 1.3% over the previous period (October - December 2024). The index for Taipa & Coloane (212.7) dropped by 7.2% while that for the Macao Peninsula (202.1) climbed by 0.4%. The index for existing residential units (223.6) increased by 0.1% from the previous period, whereas that for pre-sale residential units (222.2) went down by 16.8%.


MPU Research Findings on Sino-Portuguese Studies Published in International Journal Humanities & Social Sciences Communications

Zhang Xiang, a lecturer from the Faculty of Languages and Translation (FLT) at Macao Polytechnic University (MPU), collaborated with a scholar from Jinan University to conduct ground-breaking research analysing the dissemination, representative genres, and cultural impact of contemporary Chinese literature in Portuguese-speaking countries. The study, titled “Translating Culture: The Rise and Resonance of Chinese Contemporary Literature in the Portuguese-Speaking World,” has been published in Humanities & Social Sciences Communications (HSSC), a prestigious international journal under the Nature Portfolio. Zhang Xiang serves as the corresponding author of the paper.


2025MIECF, Macao’s First Exhibition Introducing Green Power
