The University of Macau (UM) and China Southern Power Grid Co, Ltd (China Southern Power Grid) today (8 September) signed a collaboration agreement online on the establishment of the China Southern Power Grid – University of Macau Joint Laboratory of Smart Power and Energy for Carbon Neutrality and held a plaque unveiling ceremony for the laboratory. Through university-enterprise collaboration, the joint laboratory will give full play to the strengths of both parties, carry out scientific and technological research, talent training, and industrial promotion in the field of carbon-neutral smart power and energy systems, realise the deep integration of industry, universities, and research institutes, and promote innovation and development of the power and energy industry in Macao, the Greater Bay Area, and across China.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the overall residential property price index for May - July 2022 decreased by 0.2% over the previous period (April - June 2022) to 258.3. The index for Taipa & Coloane (254.4) dropped by 1.3% while that for the Macao Peninsula (259.2) rose by 0.1%.

The exhibition “Prelude to Macao’s Modern Style”, organised by the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) under the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will be held from 9 September 2022 to 7 May 2023, at the special exhibition room on the 3^rd floor of the MAM. The exhibition features over 150 works in different styles by 60 artists, showing the creative journey of Macao artists and artists with important connections to Macao in the field of modern art from the early 20^th century to 1986. All are welcome to visit.

Since cybercrimes become one of the major criminal activities nowadays, rapid illicit fund flows and concealment of criminal identities thus pose challenges for analyses and investigations. The Financial Intelligence Office (GIF) remains committed to cooperate and communicate with financial sector to enhance the effectiveness on the prevention and suppression of money laundering and terrorist financing. As such, GIF held “The 9^th Joint Meeting on Prevention and Suppression of Financial Crimes” on 7^th September 2022 via online platform, with a total of around 170 participants. Participants included the compliance officers and employees from compliance department.

The Secretary for Economy and Finance, Mr Lei Wai Nong, today said Macao would strive to hold already-scheduled meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) events during the remainder of the year. The Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government would also endeavour to hold a National Day fireworks display in October, if epidemic-related conditions permitted that.

The inaugural conference of the Southern Alliance for International Chinese Education and the first International Chinese Education Southern Forum, which combined both online and in-person elements, was recently held. During the conference, the first Board of Directors was elected and the University of Macau (UM) was elected as vice-president unit of the alliance. Gong Yang, assistant professor in the Faculty of Education (FED) of UM, was elected as vice president. More than 200 experts and scholars from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao participated in the conference.
