The amended Law on “Prohibition of Providing Illegal Accommodation” effective on 1 April Greater force unfolds to combat illegal accommodation

The Macao Special Administrative Region Government first enforced the Law on "Prohibition of Providing Illegal Accommodation" in 2010 to crack down on illegal accommodation in residential buildings. Riding on changes in the social environment, illegal hostels became more shrouded and posed hidden threat to community safety, arousing concern in different circles of the society. To strengthen legal mechanisms against such illicit operations, the Government formulated the Law No. 3/2022 as Amendments to the Law No. 3/2010 on "Prohibition of Providing Illegal Accommodation". Effective from today (1 April), the amended law is grounded on thorough consideration of opinions from different sectors of the city.


Starting April, Employers with No Staff Change Not Required to Report and can Make their Payments through Electronic Channels

Starting from the contribution month of April 2022 (i.e. payment for contributions of the first quarter of 2022), in order to simplify the reporting procedures and open up payment channels for employers, employers whose long-term employees have no changes in employment situation are not required to report again, and they can directly pay contributions through designated electronic payment channels using the contribution payment advice. In addition, employers who have hired a non-resident worker may also pay the employment fee through designated electronic channels.

UM establishes Centre for Linguistics to promote academic and research collaboration across different language disciplines

The University of Macau (UM) recently held a plaque unveiling ceremony for the Centre for Linguistics. The establishment of the centre marks the university’s efforts to promote research studies across different language disciplines and its contributions to the development of linguistics in Macao. After the ceremony, representatives of UM’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FAH) and the Macao Linguistics Society signed a collaboration agreement on the publication of the Macao Journal of Linguistics.


Opening arrangement of Estoril Swimming Pool in 2022

Starting from 1 April to 30 November, Estoril swimming pool managed by Sports Bureau (ID) will be open to the public in three sessions: 07:00-11:00, 12:00-16:00 and 17:00-22:30. The pool will be temporarily closed for routine pool cleaning during the first period every Wednesday (on the occasion that Wednesday is a public holiday, the pool will remain opened and the cleaning will be postponed to the first session next following day).


New Cohorts of UM Reporters and PRSAs Inaugurated

An online inauguration ceremony was recently held for the new cohorts of UM Reporters and PR Student Ambassadors (PRSA) of the University of Macau (UM). During the ceremony, certificates were presented to the Top Ten UM Reporters and the Top Ten PR Student Ambassadors. In his speech, UM Vice Rector (Student Affairs) Mok Kai Meng encouraged the students to make the most of every opportunity at UM to reach their full potential.

April is a Contribution Month, Three Banks Newly Added to Collect FSS’s Payments, FSS Calls for Early Payments

April is a contribution month of the Social Security Fund (abbreviated to FSS in Macao). In this month, employers are required to pay obligatory system contributions for their local long-term employees for the first quarter of 2022. If a non-resident worker is hired, the employer is required to pay the employment fee as well. In addition, arbitrary system beneficiaries may also pay their contributions in April. Since April, the FSS has newly added three cooperative banks, calling on employers and arbitrary system beneficiaries to make their payments through electronic payment channels as much as possible.
