How to Apply

Application procedures and documents required

1. If the marital status is changed,

  • If the marital status is changed to married, a photocopy of marriage certificate (original copy should be produced for verification) and a photocopy of the spouse’s identification document should be submitted*. For the name of the spouse, if there is only a Chinese name (without any transliteration) registered on the photocopy of spouse’s identification document, a Romanized Cantonese transliteration will be registered according to law. An authenticated copy of a valid household registration transcript may also be required for those applicants or their spouses who are originally from Japan, France or Taiwan Region.
  • If the marital status is changed to divorced, a photocopy of the proof of divorce (original copy should be produced for verification) should be submitted.
  • If the marital status is changed to widowed, a photocopy of the spouse’s death certificate (original copy should be produced for verification) should be submitted.

(Please submit all relevant proof of marriage if there is no record found in this Bureau)

* If expectant spouses are holding electronic Macao SAR Resident Identity Card, at the time of applying for marriage registration at the Civil Affairs Registry, they can authorize the entity to provide DSI with the information related to their application for marriage registration and the Marriage Registration Certificate that they have applied. Within 60 days from the date of marriage registration, the spouses can use the designated self-service kiosks to update the marital status of their identity card.

Attention:

1. In addition, if above-mentioned documents are not written in Chinese, Portuguese or English, applicants are required to produce an official translation.

2. When the personal data stored in the chip on the Macao SAR Resident Identity Card is being updated, the identity card will be temporarily kept at DSI until relevant formalities are finished. Also, the collection time of the identity card varies with different time of application. Please refer to the time table below for the corresponding collection time of the identity card:

2. If there is any change in personal data (such as names, date of birth, parents’ names, place of birth, etc.) 

A. For applicant who was born in Macao:

The applicant should alter the personal data at the Civil Affairs Registry prior to the renewal of BIR. Upon approval, the applicant can then lodge the BIR renewal application at DSI with the updated birth certificate.

B. For applicant who was born outside Macao:

a. For applicant who does not obtain the residence authorization document issued by the Residence and Stay Affairs Department of the Public Security Police Force:

Applicant should make the personal data alteration request at DSI by completing the “Alteration of Personal Data Application Form” prior to the renewal of BIR. Supporting documents such as birth certificate, notary certificate, Household Register in Mainland China, the original copy of the Resident Population Registration Card issued by the Public Security Authority in China where the applicant’s household registration record are kept or its photocopy affixed with the official stamp of the Public Security Authority, the identification documents of siblings and so on should be enclosed with the application. The application can be lodged in person at the Enquiry Counter or by mail (P. O. Box 1089, Macao, Director of the Identification Services Bureau).

b. For holder of residence authorization documents:

Applicant should alter the personal data of the residence authorization document at the Residence and Stay Affairs Department of the Public Security Police Force prior to the renewal of BIR. After obtaining the updated residence authorization document, the applicant can then request for the alteration of personal data at DSI by completing the “Alteration of Personal Data Application Form”. The application should be lodged with relevant supporting documents. However, alteration in name sequence is not subject to this requirement.


Remarks/ Notes for Application

  1. Applicants should apply for the renewal of BIR in person at DSI upon approval of the aforesaid personal data alteration request.
  2. If the applicant is under the age of 18, he/she is required to submit the photocopies of both parents’ identification documents and accompanied by a parent who will sign the application form for the applicant when lodging the application.
