IAM sets up 60 temporary collection points for large unwanted furniture items
To facilitate the public’s disposal of large unwanted furniture items, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will set up 60 temporary collection points for large unwanted furniture items in the different districts of Macao from 1 to 7 May. Out of the 60 temporary collection points, 50 are located in the Macao Peninsula, 6 are located in Taipa and 4 are located in Coloane. IAM urges the public to dispose of unwanted furniture items properly at the specified time period and locations to avoid affecting environmental hygiene, as well as pedestrian and traffic safety.

CE in Brussels meets Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, and Ambassador of China to Belgium
While in Belgium, the Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, had respective meetings with the Head of the Chinese Mission to the European Union (EU), Ambassador Mr Fu Cong, and the Ambassador of China to Belgium, Mr Cao Zhongming. The two sets of discussions covered how to promote ties between Macao and EU member states, including Belgium, as well as to promote people-to-people exchanges between the places.

UM Faculty of Health Sciences holds symposium on biomedical sciences
The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of the University of Macau (UM) recently held the Seventh Symposium on Biomedical Sciences for Students, Postdoctoral Fellows and Research Assistants. Over 160 researchers participated in the event and had in-depth discussions on topics related to biomedical sciences.

Package tours and hotel occupancy rate for March 2023
Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 126 hotel establishments offered accommodation services to the public in March 2023, an increase of 6 year-on-year. Besides, the total number of available guest rooms grew by 0.7% to 39,000. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms in March rose by 46.3 percentage points year-on-year to 77.0%, with the rates for 5-star (77.2%) and 2-star hotels (80.9%) surging by 50.2 percentage points and 46.2 percentage points respectively.

Bank of China Trophy One Million Dollar Macao Regional Entrepreneurship Competition held at UM
The Bank of China Trophy One Million Dollar Macao Regional Entrepreneurship Competition was held at the University of Macau (UM) again this year, with the trade show and elevator pitch session taking place at the Student Activity Centre. The shortlisted teams will compete in the Macao regional final. The top three teams that emerge from the regional final will represent Macao in the national final, where they will compete with other regional finalists for the grand prize of over RMB 1 million as start-up capital as well as financing opportunities.

International market development — MGTO forges ahead with online-offline destination promotions overseas
Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) presses ahead with a series of destination promotions overseas to tap into a wider range of international markets. This year, a variety of roadshows are successively unveiled. Familiarization group visits to Macao are organized and special travel offers are launched. An array of online and offline advertisement channels are leveraged to maximize the city’s publicity. The latest advertisements are released on mega digital screens at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), capitalizing on the airport’s vast flow of overseas visitors to raise the destination profile and attract international travelers.

IFTM scholar participated in a research project of the General Program by the National Natural Science Foundation of China
Recently, Mr. Wu Chi Wai, a lecturer from the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM), has participated in a research project of the General Program by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The research project, titled "Complex Data Feature Modeling and Forecasting for Tourist Demand: Multiscale Deep Learning Approach," will span four years. The project is led by Professor He Kaijian from the College of Tourism at Hunan Normal University, with IFTM’s lecturer Wu Chu Wai as the co-investigator.

Adjustment to mask-wearing guidelines from 28 April
The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre announces upcoming adjustments to the local mask-wearing guidelines after drawing reference from national and international guidelines on the prevention and control of COVID-19 and other respiratory infectious diseases. Starting from 28 April, the mask-wearing rules will be divided into three categories depending on the situations: 1. Situations where masks are required; 2. Situation where masks are recommended; 3. Situations where masks are not required. It should be noted that individuals and institutions must comply with the requirements related to situations where masks are required; however, under the situations where masks are recommended, individuals can decide whether or not to use a mask if no requirement is made by the institutions.
